    NetBIOS discovery

Hi---one of computers connected to home LAN running Windows 10 can't be viewed in Network control panel of others. What are the services required to be started on both guest and host computers to show local computer automatically in Explorer under Network branch? I have walked all services on the "invisible" computer and didn't find anything related to NetBIOS, SMB. I still can access shared resources of the "invisible" computer by specifying them by UNC path, ie. \\ASUS\Windows_10\ opens the system drive root folder on any computer.

Function Discovery.... services made the change. Now the computer is advertised properly.
    Thanks.

I have one problem yet, how do I secure the shared folders so that they can be accessed only within LAN and not from outside?

I use login credentials. If you can't log on to machine you can't access.

The only way to secure shares is to add passwords to it if you share with everyone then as it says anyone can access it including any malware / ransom wware

I also believe that you can have a block of data and you can share that data with users on that device.

So we have computer A. On Computer A we have a folder with timesheets in the boss's folders.

On that same computer A you create a standard user call John and give John a password.

On the Timesheet folder you allow a share with John.

When John wants access to that folder he logs onto Computer A using his credentials. He should be able to see the timesheet folder in the boss's folder.

    Think that should work.

Ok, I have 3 pics you can see to how to make your network shares accessible via private LAN, and not from outside as you requested.
Pic 1: NetBIOS discovery-networking1.png go to settings > network & internet > wifi and scroll a bit down till you see advanced networking options, click that.
Which should take you to pic 2:NetBIOS discovery-networking2.png, now set private exactly as you see in this pic.
Then in pic 3:NetBIOS discovery-networking3.png, set your guest/public networks as follows in the screenshot. It should prevent access from outside while you can access your shares on your private lan.
