Windows 10 Network Can See PC's but not Browse to them

    Hi,
I have a slightly strange one. I have a Windows 10 PC running Windows 10 Education, that we use for holding in our Photos, Videos and Music. Under Network we can see all the other machines on my network including my Rasperry Pi and other WIndows 10 PC's, but when you double-click on any to browse what shares a device has available the machine has a brief think and then returns an error of:

    Network Error:
    Windows cannot access \\<MACHINENAME>

Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise there might be a problem with your network. To try and identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.

Under see details: Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found

The version of Windows 10 on the machine I was trying to browse is Windows 10 Home.

This used to work up until a few months ago.

I have reloaded the machine from a fresh install of Windows 10 but this has made no difference. The machine can be browsed fine from the other devices on the network and functions happily as a DLNA server running Meezmo. The only additional software besides Windows 10 is: Office 2016, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Shockwave Player, iTunes, Meezmo for Windows, Java and TeamViewer.

I have tried steps in this article Microsoft shares a fix for network problems on Windows 10 April - MSPoweruser

But having issues to get Computer Browser to go to Delayed Start.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dwarfboysim

    Hi there Dwarfboyism

Please confirm all your devices are on V1803. Windows key + R, type winver, enter

If some of your machines are older V17xx you should likely get rid of homegroups if that is what you were using.

With V1803 Homegroups is no longer supported and V1803 started rolling out start of May. Timing fits.

In this post I mention a couple of services which it looks like you've done from the link you posted but you should confirm the info around the screen shots. You don't have to use passwords to access, I do and I screen shot my machine.

This thread talks to similar issues as you are experiencing and in the end adjusting the "Host" file fixed. Looks like a long read, it isn't.

File Shares will not stay active - Windows 10 (since recent HG update)

    Hi Ken,
All running 1803 build. Have never used Homegroup, always used Turn Off Password Protected Sharing. Tried the hosts file that didn't help either.

    Thanks,

    Hey Dwarfboyism,

Rename the PC that your're trying to access.

Hmmm, I just noticed that from your 1st post ... Computer Browser is tied to SMBv1, so that indicates that you have SMBv1 installed. If so, do you have it installed on all your PC's - Enable or Disable SMB1 File Sharing Protocol in Windows | Windows 10 Tutorials

Note: Unless you have legacy devices on your network that require SMBv1, you shouldn't need it to do file sharing.

    Edit:
BTW ... can you manually access your shares by their \\IPADDRESS ... File Explorer > Address Bar (i.e. \\192.168.1.5)
