HP Omen Windows 10 Laptop Wifi Public/Private Network issue

    Hello All

No matter what I do, it just won't stay on Private network, removing forgetting the wifi network and restarting doesn't help, troubleshooter doesn't help, is it time for another darn system fresh start refresh? Previously was running Avast Free on the system, switched to using Defender possibly a month ago.

Macrium backup wouldn't restore from my old usb drive, did a new backup on newer usb drive, but half the time i have issues restoring them properly, same on desktop, where it restored fine last time i tried it, but wouldn't go back to using my Pro digital license on that system, don't know if i'm doing something wrong

Should i use Fresh start refresh or attempt very first laptop full clean install of 1803?

Thanks all for help in advance

I would do the clean install and drop all the HP ware. Maybe need their button software but the rest of it is likely questionable.

Likely you have an HP connection manager that I would check regarding your network.

You aren't running any kind of cleaners are you that could be resetting items?

You would have to go through list and determine need for each. You haven't used HP recovery manager yet so...

Only used it once to make the USB recovery flash drive, other than that nope not used nothing else as yet, Had Laptop since December 24th 2017, then just updated it to latest release, and went from there

Probably well over due for a clean install on that system

You should still do analysis. Wireless button allows you to shut off radios, 3D Driveguard locks drives in case of a fall. It will show as unidentified device in device manager if you don't install.

If you you have recovery key and it is HP's creation it would likely reinstall everything fresh.

If this is a new device that came with 10 then there is likely an OEM recovery partition that will restore machine to factory level although it will be older version, say 1709 or 1703.

Yeah 1703 was originally shipped with, then Updated to 1709 and then 1803 when that released, Will still do analysis of the software prior to deciding which way to go, might end up doing factory recovery possibly....I got time to decide though, no rush really, take my time, analysis HP software, finish backup of files, find the recovery usb drive, and get it fixed up.

Seems a shame to restore back to 1703 and then have it immediately update to 1803.

If they, HP, have this software on their site, I know they HP 3D and wireless button, I might be more inclined to clean from Win 10 media and add what I need.

Yes I thinking of doing it that way full clean 1803, then add what I need from HP's site, as would be a real shame to do even minimal factory restore, and then have to remove Mcafee, then update to 1803, then clean all that up, plus with only a 128gb M.2 SSD inside that system as boot drive, the less data I can get on it, the better.

So will get drivers together, software together after I finish analyzing what need, finish backup of files, (finds external with room from Desktop desk lol). Then once freshly installed system image with Macrium once Windows Part is done, activated, antivirus program all set, Malwarebytes Free, can possibly work on that laptop tomorrow once I get everything in order

Windows will handle bulk of drivers well.

    Keep us posted.
