    Update made wifi adapter disapear

A recent update removed my internet connection. My wi-fi adapter is no longer visible, only Bluetooth. I can still see the adapter in Device Manager, but not in Network Connections.

I am using an Intel Compute Stick, running Windows 10 Home 32 bit on a x64 processor. The recent update took me to v.1803, OS build 17134.137. However, I tried doing a restore, so now it is v.1709 OS build 16299.431. The restore did not help.

I saw one recommendation that this can be caused by power management. The compute stick has no battery, but I did confirm that it is set to "Maximum Performance - No Power Savings". In Device Manager it says the current power state is D0, or fully on.

Troubleshoot did not uncover any issues. However, when I opened the details, it only checked the Bluetooth connection.

Again the device manager says WAN Miniport (IP) is working properly, and claims it has the right driver.

    What should I check next?

Someone said I should try the command prompt "netcfg -d" and a restart. The command generated a bunch of errors. I restarted anyway. There was no change.

If the wifi adapter appears in Device manager without any warning triangle but there is no wifi section in Settings, Networks then reinstall the wifi adapter.

If the wifi adapter appears in Device manager without any warning triangle and there is a wifi section in Settings, Networks then use Settings, Update, Troubleshoot. I'd suggest this sequence:-
    Hardware & devices
    Network adapter
    Internet connections

    Best of luck,
    Denis

I clicked uninstall on the WAN Miniport (IP). It disappeared from the Device Manager. I restarted. It did reappear in the Device Manager, but it is still not visible in Networks. There is still no wi-fi.

I thought it might be a driver issue, so I downloaded ndistapi.sys and ndiswan.sys to a thumb drive. When I tried copying from the thumb drive to the drivers folder, it said I needed permission, even after I hit the administrator button. I took control of the folder, and it still said it.

Thanks for your help thus far. Any other suggestions?

Good to know this problem is endemic to Compute Sticks.

I followed the directions to completely reset the wi-fi adapter, per your link. It claimed this would cause the adapter to appear in the device manager, but showing that the driver needed reset. It did not. I tried having it update drivers off the USB stick anyway. This did not work.

When I open Network status, it says the wi-fi adapter is disconnected. Device Manager says it is working normally.

*sigh* I hope I don't have to reinstall windows.

Well, I made an installation USB and reinstalled windows. The problem persists! I can still see the adapters in device manager, but not in the networks.
