    New school network

I help out looking after the laptops a a local private school. Simple things like checking updates, and basic care which they otherwise wouldn't get. I usually bring them to my home and login to my own wifi. That's worked just fine until a server was installed at the school. Now with the laptops at home I am confronted with a different password login screen which obviously wont work as I am away from the school network.

Using Lazesoft on a boot usb stick, I could see the built in Administrator account was locked and disabled, so I freed that up. I logged in by selecting "Other User" and entered .\Administrator as the username. Only to find it was using a temporary profile. I then tried to create my own local Admin account (with administrator privileges) only to find that too was a temporary profile.

Any suggestions how to get round this impasse? Please keep it simple as you probably have figured out I don't have much of a clue!

I assume it's a domain server and you need a domain account to login depending how it's setup you may not be able to login without the domain. Activation a admin account can destroy domain security and stop PC from working. If it's setup correctly updates etc will all be controlled by the domain. If you not a domain admin you are in effect vomitting a crime by hacking and our rules don't allow support of hacking I suggest you contact the it department

Hi KeithJr, are your willing to share your solution?

Willing to share your solution? Not as though the problem is present for me, but sometimes knowing in advance has its advantages.

Regardless, Kudos for making it work.

From memory, this is what I did....

First thing was to get a bootable USB stick running Lazesoft. With this you can see your user accounts, and reset any passwords to null, in particular the inbuilt Administrator account. Having activated that, remove the usb and boot into windows. This gave me an option "Other user" which I selected and entered .\Administrator as the login name with no password. This gets you into windows with admin privileges, but on a temporary profile.

Open Control Panel - System & Security - System - Advanced System Settings, and select the Computer name tab. Change Domain to Workgroup, and type WORKGROUP in the box below. Then Click on More and delete contents of box listing the Primary DNS suffix of this computer.

Reboot and you are now free of the network domain.

Thx for the time and effort to recount this. I do expect that it will be valuable to me and others in the coming days...

I'm wondering what happen when you tried to connect this notebook back into the original domain?

made a note of the settings before I changed them. I intend putting them back, then do all my maintenance when on the school network. I have an admin account login there. Hopefully this will work!
