Network File Sharing - Different Users

I'm trying to understand the latest W10 ver. 1803 network file sharing, like I've been trying to do with all other Windows versions since Windows began. I think I've boiled it down to a simple question:

There are two networked computers named "BLUE" and "YELLOW". Blue has only one user account named "Carol". Yellow only has one user account, named "Joe".

Joe (on computer YELLOW) only wants Carol, not Everyone, to access some of his folders. Carol doesn't have an account on Joe's computer.

In this situation, is there any way for Carol have full READ/WRITE control over Joe's folders? Or does Joe need to create a user "Carol" on his computer, with the exact same password as Carol's login on her BLUE computer? Or something else?

    Thanks

Joe could tell carol his password and she would be able to connect (only to shared resources). If Joe doesn't want to share his password, create a new user.

    Thanks.

If Joe creates a "Carol" user on his computer, does it have to use the exact same password that Carol uses to log into her computer?

Creating a user with same names password is the simple way to do it you can add her to NTFS and share permission. What folders do you want to share as some like files in the profile like desktop have stricter permission

Not necessary the same password (but it is the easiest way - like Samuria posted above)

Thanks, yeah I saw that excellent tutorial by Brink, but as with most network sharing tutorials it assumes that the local user account is identical to the remote user account. That's what never made sense to me. With Windows you're always selecting a local user account as a way to share with a remote user. Doesn't make sense. Gives me a headache.

Think this is so popular (same username and pass), because remote user won't forget his password this way. If it's different, you have to check that option (remember..) otherwise you'll forget it next time and Carol will have to call Joe and ask him to set her new password

On the other hand, setting the same Username and pass, will give other user access to first user computer. If this is already the case (family usual), then there is no problem. Otherwise...

Yes, there is another way too. You could set up a Share User on both computers the sharing and security set to Authorized users. That way P2P workgroup will work and each of you will still have your own user profiles, where you can set up folder and file permissions or set up folder and files to share on the Share User if that is what you are thinking of?

By default Windows passes current users details when accessing a share which is why it's simpler to have the account on target PC but you can pass any via cmd line or when mapping a drive
