Can't access shared computer after update

Just did an update on one of my 4 computers in my network. It was 2018-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 (KB4338819) - OS Build 17134.165.

As soon as it rebooted, I lost access to one of the computers in the network. I can still access the shared folders of the others, but not the shared folders of one of them ("officeserver").

The other computers can still access officeserver.

I have tried everything I can think of: making sure all the right services are running and automatic (Computer Browser, Workstation, SSDP Discovery, etc.), making sure the folders on officeserver are shared to Everyone, various ipconfig commands and resets, etc.

This morning I could access officeserver, now I can't.

I just can't figure out what to do next.

    Thanks for any help!

Yes, thank you. I have made sure those services are on, and I have turned SMB 1.0 on.

It is so frustrating. All PCs are newer Windows 10 machines. Actually now, I can't access any computers, but the others can.

It sounds crazy but you might have to do what I did. I could not get my network going until I renamed my computer. Open Settings, click on System, then on the left side at the bottom, click About. There will be a Rename this PC button where you can do it. Rename it and reboot. See if it fixes it.

Well I did that and upon rebooting I was able to access “officeserver”! But still not “tech”...but an improvement! Thanks- I’ll try some more name changes tomorrow.

You're welcome. I should have mentioned I had to do that on both PC. Hopefully it will fix your issue completely as well.

This is so random and frustrating.

Today I can access one computer (officeserver) but not another (tech). My colleague can access tech but not officeserver (opposite to me). Last night I could access both of them.

I have changed names of all of them, verified they are in the same workgroup, and done everything I can think of.

It seems to change from one minute to the next. This happened with the Spring Update, and after a week or so it finally resolved. But WHY is this happening, and how can I fix it? It shouldn't be so random like this.

Try editing the hosts file- it's the only reliable solution for me. Its in this forum.

Is the issue resolved or is it still happening? Can you access via ip address (\\192.168.0.x - assuming that is your current network address range). Also try accessing by \\tech.local or \\officeserver.local if there is still an issue or try the hosts file resolution as mentioned above, though that is a bit of a pain. If you do try resolving the issue with hosts file, make sure you are using DHCP reservations in your router so that each machine will get the same IP each time.
