Accessing networked PC - what are network credentials

I wish to connect to a directory on another computer on my home network. All was well until the 1803 update (I was able to map the required folder OK) but now I get a dialogue asking for my network credentials; name and password. I think I can set the name OK - in my case Alan-PC\Alan - but what is the password? I am lost here as I have not set any passwords (as far as I know!).

I see queries like this are not unusual but would welcome any help to resolve the problem.

    Thanks.

The pc you are connecting to requires an account on that pc and a password setup on it, so you can connect to it.

Alternatively, remote pc must setup shares so no password is required.

OK, I have created an account on the networked PC but I was not asked for a password. On that PC I can see the account I created and it says it is password protected; but I cannot see how to change the password.

    What am I missing?

OK, I have sorted the problem by getting the remote PC to 'not check passwords'. This was necessary despite the fact that the computer concerned did not have a password set.

    Thanks for the help.
