    Losing internet connection intermittently

For the past month or so, I've been losing my internet connection intermittently. This happens somewhat sporadically, but when it does the connection is interrupted for about 30 -45 seconds and then resumes, usually without my having to resort to Windows 10 troubleshooting. This is only bothersome if I am streaming video content or downloading something. However when the connection goes down on my laptop, it's also interrupted on my son's laptop, and because he's constantly gaming, he is getting increasingly angry with the situation and taking it out on me!!
My wife works for the local phone company, and her colleagues assure her that our ADSL line is operating normally. I'm pretty sure that there are no problems with the wireless modem/router; it's always worked perfectly well even if two computers (and at times a couple of mobile phones) are connected to it.
So I'm wondering if this is a legacy of Windows 10 updates. I have just tried updating my Atheros wireless network adapter drivers and will do the same thing on my son's computer (he also has Windows 10, but not the most recent version), and I've reset TCP/IP and Winsock via the registry. But the connection continues to go down.
Just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems.

What does your access point signal show in netshow wlan /show all in the command window? Paste the output on a message. It will let us see everything that is going on with your computer.

If yo can try swapping/substituting the modem power supply. I had a similar situation a few years back, the problem was caused by a defective filter capacitor in the modem power supply.

Is this SSID "SSID 8 : Telecom-61402601" also your's? The one that you are connected to on Channel 11 is lower signal, which means that you may have to reposition the Access Point if you can, or add a extender (Another Access Point that is separate and you would need to run Ethernet "Cat-5" wiring for it).

Actually their problem is channel and distance. If it was a faulty power supply, the modem would reboot all of the time. I am suspecting wrong SSID.

    Thanks for replying, guys.

Telecom-54602391 is my connection, and not Telecom-61402601.

I'm not very tech minded when it comes to network connections etc. I have no idea how to reposition the Access Point or add an extender. Is this complicated? Would a new modem/router solve the problem? The current one is about 6 years old, but has always worked well (at least I thought so). The connection problem started about five weeks ago.

Get a separate Access Point and disable the one on your device. You can also try Channel 3, if you want low speed Wireless-N still. A Separate Access Point will give you dual and even triple band for Wireless-N/AC, for LAN sharing of files and media between devices. The problem with the Gateways that ISP's provide, is the wireless chip is not that powerful for signal.

Okay, bro67. Thank you for identifying the problem. But as I said, I'm a complete novice when it comes to setting up network connections etc.; you'll have to walk me through exactly what it is that I have to do.

Do I need to buy another modem/router in order to have a separate access point? How do I set up a new access point, and choose the channel?

Sorry for all the questions, but try and bear with me. I've never had to do any of this before since these problems with my connection are a recent occurrence.

    Thanks.

You do not have to purchase another Gateway. You can just purchase a Access Point. There are the "Mesh" type network devices out there that you plug into outlets that allow you to cover your home with full coverage. They are pricy, but worth it in those situations where you have problems with signal.
