Do you have Home or Pro? Can you connect to any other client computers?

I thought Home was Remote Desktop in only? You can remote desktop into 10 Home but you can't remote desktop out to another PC from it? You need 10 Pro or Enterprise to remote desktop into another PC. Assuming your using Windows built in Remote Desktop utility.

No, it's the other way round all editions include the Remote Desktop Client and can connect to any PC with the Remote Desktop Server enabled. Only Pro and above allow you to connect to them.

Enable or Disable Remote Desktop Connections to Windows 10 PC

The Remote Desktop client will not connect to these Windows Versions and Editions:
    • Windows 7 Starter
    • Windows 7 Home
    • Windows 8 Home
    • Windows 8.1 Home
    • Windows 10 Home
    https://docs.microsoft.com/windows-s...#supported-pcs

maideen5's region is Malaysia, English may not be their first language. As I understand it the OP's problem can be stated as:

    • The Windows 10 PC can connect to the remote desktop of a PC running Windows Server 2012, but cannot connect to a Windows 8.1 PC.
    • A Windows 7 PC can connect to both, so the Windows 8.1 PC is known to allow incoming connections.

I don't have an 8.1 Pro machine, so I can't test this for myself. @Kari wrote the tutorial on this, perhaps he has a suggestion.

    Edit: see post #10

@Bree lol, as I was typing that I was thinking I might be getting it backwards. I think I need another cup of coffee. I make use of Remote desktop and run Pro to make full use of it. Just lost track of why I needed Pro to make it all work.

It is exactly as you said. Windows 10 Home and Single Language editions can only be used as remote host, computer hosting the remote session (connecting to another computer over remote desktop).

PRO or above is required for remote client, computer to which remote host is connecting.

Well the OP's 8.1 machine must be Pro or above as the W7 client can connect to it. I don't see why the W10 client would be having problems.

@maideen5, what errors do you see when you try to connect using the W10 PC? Do you get as far as being asked for a password, or does it fail before that?

I understood that the W10 machine is running Home edition, which would make it impossible to use remote desktop to connect to it:

I understand the OP is using W10 and W7 machines to connect to an 8.1 and a server 2012 machine. The W7 can connect to both, the W10 can only connect to the server 2012.

We need the OP to confirm that I have understood their description of the problem before we can help them.

Edit: I now have downloaded an 8.1 90-day evaluation VM from Microsoft. I can connect to it using RDC from both Windows 10 Home and Windows 7 machines.
