Windows 10 was always hardened against Wannacry, and was quicky patched with extra support so it should not be an issue

TCP/IPv6 would only be of real use to you if you were in an area that actually uses that particular protocol, eventually it will spread worldwide as we run out of TCP/IPv4 addresses . At present the areas that have moved over are mostly in the Asia Pacific area. IPv6 was used to drive the Homegroup system but since Windows 10 v1803 this is gone so the need for local use of IPv6 has gone with it

Instead of disabling IPV6, set policies to Prefer IPv4 over IPv6. See this fixit:

Hi folks
after latest update that parameter doesn't exist any more (Windows 10 X-64 PRO).

I can't access ANY computer now on my LAN and no computers show up in my Network on Windows.

This whole Windows networking is a real DOG - seems updates randomly break networking.

I've had to revert back 3 updates ago -- without network access I might just as well chuck the laptop in the nearest river or toss it into a volcano.

Networking problems on Windows seem to have been endemic ever since Windows 3.11 many many moons ago,

Absolutely zero problems before or after the update - maybe it does not agree with your setup somehow

just seems stuff works and then after an update it just stops -- usually on one specific machine.

I reverted back to an image taken 1 month ago -- network OK, then applied updates via windows update and its working even after 2 / 3 reboots.

All I do in this machine is just apply windows updates and run some VM servers none of which have been updated for ages.
My main gripe is that the networking just can't seem to be reliable -- it's not if i'm fiddling around on this particular machine and making loads of changes all over the place !!!!!.

If NONE of the machines work or the same defect is repeatable I'd actually be happier -- however this is not the cause and judging by the myriad of solutions / suggestions to be found in this section of the Forum I don't think that networking issues are confined to just a few people !!!

Try this-it's the only thing I have found that makes networking stable: Edit Hosts file to fix network issues after 1803 update - Windows 10 Forums this worked on 6 machines, all with different setups.

Unfortunately windows "all things to all men" design philosophy means that except in very large enterprise systems where hardware sets are identical and the software load is from a total one shot image, no two machines are identical, so may behave differently.

I had this problem yesterday at the shop. I applied this registry change:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters]
"AllowInsecureGuestAuth"=dword:00000001

I also turned off Password protected sharing. Those to resolved it for me.

Right click on Network and select Properties.
Click on Change advanced sharing settings at left.
Click the down arrow next to All Networks at the bottom.
Select Turn off password protected sharing.
Click the Save changes button.

That parameter doesn't exist on my system (W10 X-64 PRO) running build 1803 1734.165
does your post mean create and add the parameter ?.

Hmmm, I wonder if it's tied to SMB1 which I have enabled both at the shop and here at home? MS disabled it in the April update which is part of the cause of all the problems. I'll try disabling it here and see if that parameter goes away or not and post results.

Edit: Sure enough, if SMB1 is disabled, that parameter is not there.
