Not Able to Use Full Bandwidth from ISP in Windows 10 Home

Hello, I am hoping someone might be able to provide some suggestions to resolve an issue I am having with my laptop with Windows 10. I am paying for 200 mb internet service through Charter/Spectrum and I am able to use this bandwidth on every other device in my home with the exception of my laptop. I consistently pull down 215 or so over WiFi on my phone, tablet, etc. but only about 45 on my laptop.

I am using a Linksys Velop mesh system in conjunction with the standard modem that Charter/Spectrum provides.

I am running Windows 10 Home Edition (64 bit). I've gone through and scanned for viruses, etc. Looking at the usage statistics in the settings area of Windows, I do not see any programs that seem to be gobbling up data. Looking at the Status window on my network adapter, it shows a connection speed of 150 mbps so I am under the belief that it has to be something software related. I've throttled back the allowable bandwith for Windows updates to 10% in both foreground and background and still no change. I have uninstalled and re-installed drivers for the network adapter.

I have also experimented with a Linksys WUSB6300 USB wireless adapter. My laptop's wireless adapter will not allow for connecting to a 5 GHZ band and knowing this, I purchased the adapter to use when I bought the Velop system almost a year and a half ago. I only pull down around 10 mbps using this USB adapter and connecting to the same network.

At this point I am at a loss. I really want to be able to use what I am paying for through my ISP. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I would really like to avoid having to do a clean install if possible.

Hi Dave,

That would suggest hardware issue. I would suggest to give a try different wireless card if it can be easily replaced by yourself. Or another USB adapter supporting speeds offered by your broadband provider.

Another alternative I would recommend is to use one of the Linux live distro and see what speed you can achieve. This would at least clarify if it issue with hardware or software.

Max speed may be 150 met but that would drop with distance max speed of AC is big. The WiFi is in AC mode and the built in adapter on the laptop I am using is b/g/n. I also failed to mention (and probably should have earlier) that I pull down approximately the same result through a wired connection to the Velop node as well. Here are the results.

You have the problem of 13 stations close which can interfere with the signal as you using a n type 50 meg is average as you connecting to an AC it may have to resend a lot of data as n is so much slower. The answer is to get an AC adapter for the pc they are really cheap now. You could look a the settings for the wireless specially duplex simplex if its set to full duplex it can slow it down

That's the thing...I own an AC 1200 wireless adapter. I just disabled the built in network adapter and connected to my network using the AC 1200 adapter and the results are even worse. I just tested and pulled down not even 11. It makes no sense why I would be pulling down even less with an AC 1200 adapter. Here are the test results for the AC 1200 adapter.

You have 100,s of schost running any idea what they are?
change your mtu for the wireless down to 1400 then keep testing speed and up it a bit at a time details for win7 but its the same MTU Limit - Test and change your connection's MTU limit - Windows 7 Help Forums

Disable these from startup and see if that increases speed
