Having trouble taking ownership of USB network drive

The catch here is that the SIDs are not those of the PC connecting to the network share, but those of the router's own operating system, most likely unix-based.

I see the same permissions for my 2TB drive connected to my router and shared by the router as usb1. In my case the SIDs can be resolved to the account names on my BTHUB4 router, they are the Admin and the root accounts on the router itself. The router's own Everyone group has 'special permissions' as it does on the OP's router. From any PC I have full access to the share, and the files and folders it contains, without the need to change permissions. Indeed, as for @RobN17, I can't change permissions, only the Admin account on the router's OS can do that. But I don't need to, I have full access already.



The inability to resolve the SIDs (and possibly the problems accessing some of the files) may well be down to the router and the PC trying to access it being in different Workgroups. My router and PC are both in the same workgroup. The clue that this may be the problem is the message about the inability to determine Domain membership. Try changing the router's Workgroup to be the same as the PC. The computer named "MEDIA-GATEWAY" will be the router.

My router is the one supplied by my ISP and the available configuration options are limited. It is set to use the HOME workgroup and this cannot be changed. See your router's documentation for the workgroup it uses and if you can change it. I've had to change the PCs on the network to use the HOME workgroup to match my router.

I also noted that other than everyone, you have administrator and root.. whereas I have S-1-22-1-0 and S-1-22-2-0. Is this the problem??

As I said, these are the SIDs for accounts on the router. All your permissions look normal for a share on a router. I'm not sure why you just see the SID, perhaps your router doesn't allow you to see its account names. What is the make and model of the router?

I have found a manual for your router. You can change the Workgroup on your router to match that of your PCs. See section 8.1.

No, they are already using the same workgroup and the server name looks good (no non-standard characters used, for example). As said earlier, the permissions look the same as mine so that shouldn't be a problem either. You shouldn't need to change permissions on the shared drive (even if you could).

Everything looks correctly set up, so we need to look for other possible causes for your....

...at times have trouble with not having permission to change/delete files.

Screenshots of the error(s) you encounter when changing/deleting files may help shed some light on the problem.

One possibility springs to mind, the files may be in use by your router when you tried to change them. Your router has an impressive list of features, one of them is a DLNA Media Server (enabled by default). See section 8.2 in the manual.

Media Database
When you plug in your USB storage device, the MediaAccess Gateway will automatically start building the media database. This database contains all meta data of the media files stored on your USB storage device.

It seems too much of a coincidence that these are media files you are having problems with.
