Kindle will not connect to computer

Since the latest Windows 10 update I have been unable to download ebooks from my computer to my kindle. I last transferred a book just before the update, so I am sure that is the problem.

The kindle connects to the computer. The light on the kindle shows it connected and it accepts a charge. But when I connect to Calibre the kindle is not shown.

The update was 2018-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4103729) and it was installed on 20/06/2018.

I have two kindles and have the same problem with both.

I have tried to transfer a book direct from the computer, rather than through Calibre, and have the same problem.

    Any help appreciated

Can't you just email it to your kindle email address?

I did not realise I could send by email from my computer to kindle.

Have now downloaded app and done so

    This has solved the problem.

But I would prefer to use Calibre, and can not do so since the Windows update

Am I the only one who has had this problem?

Check the Bug reports at Bugs : calibre If there is not one for your problem, report it.

    Hi there
    @thistlebarrow
The simplest way of managing kindles from a computer is to install CALIBRE latest version. Also if using Win10 X-64 download the 64 bit version of calibre.

Ensure Calibre is started BEFORE you attach the kindle to your machine.

Start up calibre and then plug your kindle into a USB slot -- USB2 works better than USB3 for some strange reason -- could be some modern USB3 ports aren't totally 100% compatible with USB2.

You should then see device connected - and computer will see it also. You should see on the kindle as well a message - connected to computer or similar.

    Here's a link to Calibre

    calibre - E-book management

excellent free software also converts formats so you can get epub format books into kindle format (and vice versa) etc - does lots of other things too.

    Cheers
