Solved: Do I go wireless or wired for desktop gaming

Ok, My wife is taking the spare room where my Desktop PC is currently and the modem I am hooked up to. And I am moving my rig in the basement to the opposite side of the house which will be about 46 ft away from the modem. So, should I go wireless? I was thinking on buying the ASUS USB-AC68 wireless modem, Or buy 100 ft of CAT6 cable and stay wired? Which would be cheaper. Will I get signal degradation by running such a long lead? Any help and feedback would be nice. Thank you

For a gaming enthusiast or purest, the only way to go is wired. I'm a big fan of wired for gaming. That said, it's up to you, if you want the connection to be aesthetically pleasing then go wifi. If not run a hard line. If you can run the hard line and make inconspicuous....I would suggest that route.

As far as cheaper....a good wifi dongle is about $40 and 100' cat 6 is about $20. I would try the wifi route first see what kind of connection you get with your existing hardware. If you get a weak signal...then go the wired route.

You are always better off with wired. 100' of Cat 6 should be good.

Wireless has much greater errors and resending of data and more delays.

Makes no difference to me. I'm a rubbish occasional player.

Better to get a flat braided Cat7 cable, it will not break easily, especially when you plan to use 100ft.

100ft isn't a problem. But I hardwire anything I can. It's always a faster and more reliable connection, period.

Totally agree with added bonus flat cable neatly passes under doors, under carpets and/or tucks neatly under skirting boards if a slight gap.

Only thing is that CAT 7 is scarce where I live. I need a cable as of today. The local Staples store has 100 ft of CAT 6 in stock. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Alright. Got it all wired up. Had to pay $70 CAD for the 100 FT CAT 6 cable. But we'll worth it. Thank you everyone for the help.
