Windows 10: Router Internet VERY SLOW!!!

My wife can't walk without pain and I have to help her a lot. That's why I can't be as quick to respond as I'd like to. I'll do the speed test wired in a little while and try to see if there's more information from the modem settings. If someone can tell me how to do this, I'll check the speed both through the modem and after the router - WIRED. I'm glad so many of you are trying to help me. This problem, so far, has defied all logic. The things listed in Post #25 are not issues with my router. It's out in the open. Also, I'll repeat that the slow speed I'm getting is when the router is only 3 - 4 feet from the PC. They're all on my desk.

Sorry to hear about your wife Nisko, take all the time you need for her. She is more important than any of this. I see nothing unusual in the modem log, was hoping to see more about the actual upstream and downstream configuration in terms of speeds your ISP sets but there seems no info about that. Hopefully the wired test through the router will show if the wireless settings are to be blamed for your issue.

INternet Speed using using router only - not hard-wired

This is the best I've ever gotten for speed using the router and 3' from the router. Usually, it's down around 15Mbps to 25Mbps.

What wireless card are you using for the wireless test?
Is the router set to AC or ac + n+G
Can you set the mtu on the router as some seem to get better speed with it set 1400 IPv6 connection issues for Google Play Services - Internet - Internet Forum - Cox Support Forums

The wireless card in my computer (but, remember, I get the same poor results on two tablets and two smartphones besides my computer) is a/g/n. I have a new card (ac) but haven't installed it yet.

How can I tell what the router is set at?

I don't know what MTU stand for? How would I find it in the router settings?

I know how to get into the router settings - but don't know what to look for (above).

    I pay for a 150Mbps service.
    My ethernet-connected test shows 163.63Mbps.
My wifi-connected test shows 65.62Mbps (using 2.4GHz connection, 40 feet between laptop and router, 6 other wifi devices connected to the same router, all using 2.4 GHz).

I consider these results fairly typical.

By comparison, you're paying for a 100Mbps service.
    Your ethernet-connected test shows 123.01Mbps.
Your wifi-connected test shows 48.56Mbps but you say it's normally 15Mbps to 25Mbps.

    IMO there's 2 issues:
    1. Why is your wifi connection speed relatively poor when your wifi-connected device is only 15 feet away?
    2. Why the wide variance between 48.56Mbps and 15Mbps?

    Issue 1: Maximizing connection speed
Interference - Are there any other devices using 2.4GHz? (Cordless phones, baby monitors, VOIP/wifi phones, Bluetooth devices, nearby car alarms, satellite TV decoders/video senders, etc? Are there any nearby neighbours using the same wifi channel?)
Obstruction - Is this clear line of sight or are there any walls in between.
Absorption - Fish tanks, people, radiators (basically, anything with water in them)
Swamping - How many other wireless devices are in use (laptops, cell phones, tablets, etc.)
    Wifi device drivers

    Issue 2: Consistency/less variance
Similar to the mainly static conditions above but more variable, i.e. people/animals moving about.

    Hope this helps...
