    Other Devices Identified in Network?

    Hi All,

Any thoughts as to why my neighbors TV is showing on my PC devices as a "Display".
I understand the Microsoft Wifi-Direct Principles and how to turn off, but I am on a LAN not Wireless and the virtual adapter is not present!

If I can see their media devices, I am assuming I am casting SSID to their devices too, is this a security issue?

Is this being picked up by my Wireless Router?
If so, any thoughts on how to stop this?

    Router: Netgear R7800

    Thank you

It is being picked up by a WiFi device and, from your description, that seems to be the router. I assume you have WiFi turned off on your computer already

Turn off the WiFi on your router
    or
Look for your router's equivalent function to Add or Remove Wireless Network from Filter in Windows 10 - TenForums so that it does not pass on that display to its client computers.

Your router's WiFi is broadcasting its SSID but that is not a security problem.

The device is attached to your network is why you are seeing it. If it is not and just showing up as public networks, you do not have to worry about it.

Hi and thanks for the replies.

I assumed as much, but there is always something that says "Check it out" when you notice something on the device list that is not yours...
I guess the same goes for Cell Phones that are sometime picked up.
So long as an IP address is not assigned I should be good.

I don't have WiFi on my PC just Lan direct from the router, so the only option would be to turn of WiFi on the router which would then cause issues with my family and their WiFi devices.

Shame this cannot be banned on the router, but you would need a connection first and identify a MAC address to do this.

    Appreciate the additional insight guys

    Hey jl2509,
Check out Access Control for your Netgear R7800.

    Hi Eagle51

Nothing shows in access control until it it is connected to the network and then you need the MAC address to ban the offender.
I tried this previously with no effect apart from blocking all new connections which has some downsides also.

    Appreciate the comments
