    Ugly home network components.

(This is maybe pure "Chum" but I'll put it out there anyway.)

Why are cable modems and routers so ugly? First the two I have are black, secondly they are odd sized - do they have to be that big? Jeez the last modem card I had was a half sized midget!

By way of explanation we have moved into a new "old" house (mid-century rancher) and the two (wifie implies) stick out like sore thumbs even tho I have them "tucked away".

There's gotta be a better way!

Really do not see a complaint here.

I don't understand 'Chum' but I guess it's the perennial argument about 'form over functionality'.

Given that you may never marry your two disparate goals together, what's more important to you?

When you decide that... then I guess you can move forward...

PS... If I had others complaining about 'network speed' then I would choose 'functionality' over 'form' - but... your choice.

Mine is in a wiring cabinet in the back of the coat closet.
Even if the devices there were ugly I wouldn't care. I never go into that cabinet. Out of sight.

So ... deal with your ugly modem by stuffing it into any available hiding place.
And if your wife still complains, just stuff her into a hiding place, too.

You're pretty much out of luck on the cable modem side but there are plenty of WiFi routers/access points that don't look like black boxes with stuff sticking out - Eero, Google WiFi, Orbi, Unifi, etc.

I have seen some white/silver Modems, Modem-Routers tho the reviews are ...iffy.
So at least somebody's offering an alternative to BLACK.

Wireless ac routers need to be large in order to spread the antennae out to get a decent dual channel signal.
The sleek routers use a antenna chip, like in a cell phone, but they do not perform as well as the big antenna array.

Temporally shift the device a few second into the future so it is invisible, with added bonus of no data lagging as you get it before it is actually transmitted.
