Connecting two pc's using ethernet cable, while one is wireless

At my new workshop (photographer), I'm connected to my friendly office-nabours guest wifi network using an ASUS PCE-AC68 adapter.

However in my work setup, I have until now been connecting my main pc, a Dell Aurora R4 (Win10 /64bit), to an older pc (Win 7/32Bit) who operates an older photo-scanner, by cables and router. But now only the main pc is connected to the internet by the wireless adapter, and there is no longer connection between the two pc's.

A friend configured this setup installing the "New TightVNC Connection" software, enabling me to operate the second pc from the main one.

So my question is:

Can the two computers be connected directly with an ethernet cable, also enabling the TightVNC software to function, regardless of the main pc being wirelessly connected to the internet?

Welcome to the forum. You could get a USB wireless for the old PC so it could be on the net and connect to the other PC. Can you still use the router and connect both via that with cables? Failing that you can get a crossover network cable and connect both that way

Tried having the old router that used to connect the two PC's running along with the new wireless adapter on the main PC, but it didn't work. I prefer to avoid investing in a second wireless network adapter for the second PC.

So I was hoping that a direct cable between the two PC's ethernet connections, possibly could be configured somewhere in settings, independantly of the new wireless adapter.

A wireless usb is just so cheap now. If you used the old router and two cables assuming DHCP is on that should work try it again and from each pc type from a cmd prompt
