[SOLVED] File Shares will not stay active - Windows 10 (since recent H

I am so frustrated and about to switch back to Window 7 which I never had problems with.

I've always used Homegroups for ease of use, so I can see my network in my Explorer list. The recent update that removed Homegroups has broken that.

I have the same fileshares as before which I can access manually using \\SERVERNAME\\Share etc...however they keep disabling themselves. Like it works for a bit, I go to work come home and they are not accesible anymore. I have to open the shares on that computer and reshare multiple times to get it to work..I have NO clue why it breaks, or what makes it work again but it is SUPER frustrating.

And why can't I have the items listed in explorer under "Network" like always..they are not there...I have to manually type the address every time.

    Hi NewYears1978

You might try this fix on your Windows 10 computer using 1803

    Right click Start, click Run
    Type services.msc, enter
Scroll down and find these two entries
    Function Discovery Provider Host
    Function Discovery Resource Publication
Right click on each service above, click properties
Change Start Up type to Automatic (Delayed Start)
In the service Status box click start
    Click Apply
    Click OK

Do I do this on my main computer or the one with the shares?

You should do it on all your W10 PC's.

Note: If you're having intermittent share connection issues (i.e. network path not found) when accessing shares by \\PCNAME you can try Prefer IPv4 over IPv6 - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...advanced-users

It only happens after I have not used my shares for awhile - almost like when a hard drive spins down or something. The only way I can fix it is mess around in Windows Explorer on the computer with the shares for a bit then it starts working again.

It's super strange. I don't have any sleep mode of HDDs or anything else on.

I think I only tried the above fix on one computer I will try it on both.

My shares are NOT on my main network pc either, don't know if that matters in any way. My main PC is my gaming/work computer and I have a server on the network that has the file shares on it. Tempted to go back to Win7 because Homegroups NEVER had a single issue.

Have you eliminated all Homegroups and then setup sharing with ID's and passwords?

Homegroups were removed automatically with Win10 update..but I've since reinstalled Win10 on both computers without ever having made a homegroup.

Same issue always happens..it's exactly like if something were on sleep mode. I do not use ID and password though I just use the Share as "Everyone" so anyone on the network can access.

    Really super frustrated with it

It seems like once I try to access it, if I wait like 2 mins then it will be active...super weird. Never had any delay issue like this before..it should ALWAYS be active..just like if it were on my computer. Maybe those Autostart delayed need to be start always on..not delayed..?

So under the heading Password Protected Sharing yours is set to....

Mine is on as it shows. I log on once to a remote machine and Windows Credential remembers the log in. As such I enter credentials once and forget. Mine is instant access.

Be interested to hear what yours is set to. I don't see an issue with "Start Always"

When you first try to access it, is just a delay or do you get a 0x80007035 (Network Path Not Found) ???
