No internet connection after roll back from 1803

My laptop upgraded from windows 10 ver 1709 to 1803 I had a couple of problems so rolled back to 1709, in doing so it has caused a bigger problem in that I cannot now connect to the internet either via the ethernet port or wirelessly.

I have run the windows troubleshooter and get the result “ Problem found Local Area Connection doesn’t have a valid IP configuration".
    I have run the following:
ipconfig It returned autoconfiguration IPv4 Address 169.254.6.249 (which I believe is wrong it should be 192.168.1..) and no result for Default Gateway.

ipconfig /release It returned “No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection* 2 while it has its media disconnected.
Local Area Connection* 2: Media State: Media Disconnected

I would be grateful for any help in resolving this problem.

Did you try "Network Reset" option?
After a wait of 5 Min. system will reboot itself.

In Windows 10 -1709 go to settings>Network & Internet and schroll down, there you have the option "Network Reset".
If the Rest does help, then try to uninstall Driver and re-install.
If that still does not help, you may try in a Command Promopt "SFC /Scannow".
If that still does not help, seems your only option is to do a "In Place Upgrade" (Look for tutorial how to do it)

    OK.
Be aware that Windows Update will re-install 1803 at once, when you go online again.
At first, the best is to disconnect PC Physically from Internet.
If you have a Pro Version , change in Settings>Update Tab to Defer updates for 365 days and change the setting of semi-anual (target) to semi-anual.If you hame a Home Version, you have to look in Tutorials about this Step, you must change some settings in Registry.
In my the PC with Home that did not take effect at once, but doing a In Place Upgrade did the Job.

For future, it is very much advisable to make a "System Image" before any Update and it is a MUST when there is a Major Upgrade like 1709 to 1803 for instance.
WIndows offers a good utility for this, just simple to use and reliable.

No internet connection after roll back from 1803

    Hi
I'm getting a bit confused with the different ways of doing an In Place Upgrade. Am I right in thinking there are 3 ways of doing it,.
1 A repair install with an ISO file.
2 A repair install using a USB stick
3 A repair install using the Media Creation Tool

If I use the Media Creation Tool option I can download the tool on to another computer then transfer it to the computer without the internet access. But what happens then, doesn't it need to have internet access to download the operating system.
Which ever way I choose does it keep all non Microsoft apps.

    Thanks

    Hi,
You have to manage to get ISO, macthing your Language, Architektur (x84 or x64) and Version which should be I think 1709.
If you use Media Creation Tool, I believe you will get latest Version, what means 1803, so useless for you.
Ask Goolge for a ISO download of the versionn you actually need, 1709.
Store it in other partition than your Boot Partition or external drive. After that open Explorer and doubble click on ISO and just run the Setup.exe.
Skip the option to "Download Updates" but make shure the option Keep Data and Settings (default) are checked.
    That is all.
After you have the full ISO you do not need the Internet.
