Legacy Server not working without SMB 1.0 Need suggestions please

    Hi guys!

I recently clean installed Windows 10 RS4 April 2018 update on my Laptop. So far so good. After a while I noticed that I couldn't see my others computers (one is a PC and the other one is a server). I investigated and after catching up I realized it was because SMB 1.0 is no longer included with the current Windows 10 iteration. Well... no shit! lol

Probably a lot of people currently having issues with their home network is because of that. This being said, I found this MS article and I can now see my network computers again (yay). But this is not really helping for my legacy server tho...

    The article is here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...ult-in-windows

I read there is huge security concern about SMB 1.0 so my question is this one:

Is there any workaround that would allow me to use my server in windows explorer without SMB 1.0?

    Thanks!

No workaround, since the Samba Foundation no longer supports SMB 1.x, same as all OS manufacturers. Suggest that you get a new NAS.

Well, I can still use the web feature, but getting a new 4 bay NAS is not cheap tho... :-(

Nothing you can do with discontinued software and hardware, due to security. Legacy is something that there is no work around to make it safe. A new 4 bay unit like a QNAS or Synology is an investment. I have a 2 Bay Synology with a Fantom drive for backup and it was worth the investment.

I guess I have no choice then. Until now, I never realized I was that much outdated! Lol I took network discovery for granted. I switched off SMB 1 on all my computers.

I expect a lot of people struggling with this tho since on a fresh Windows 10 install you don’t see your network computers unless you take some steps like shown on the link I posted earlier...

And this is if your computer or server support modern SMB versions... Am I right?

I already have 4 hard drives so the best solution for me is to get a new server and put them on it (I think)

I can now burn my Patriot Javelin S4! Lol it served me well during all these years tho. Back then they were so proud to present it as a low cost NAS for everyone but their idea just died. Lol
