This is a router issue. On my BT Homehub 6 router, I can display the two newtorks as a single name, and pc automatically chooses best one, or you can set it to show each network adding a 5 after name for 5GHZ network.

Routers vary how things are implemented.

You should look for techical support from router manufacturer website. This is not a Windows issue at all.

I dont want it to add anything else to the name. I just want my 5 ghz connection and thats it.

I repeat. This is a router issue not a windows issue.

    We cannot help you.

    Contact router manufacturer technical support.

You need to contact your Internet Service Provider.

There are 2 connections to your router. 2.4GHz and 5GHz. to distinguish between these two connections, by default, the router adds 2.4GHz or 5GHz after each SSID name. You can change the SSID name to whatever you want it to be, but it's going to add the 2.4GHz or 5GHz to the name by default to differentiate between the two. How do I change my NETGEAR router password or network name (SSID)? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

Thanks for clarifying. Can i somehow prevent the router from adding anything to the name of my networks?

Do you have a Netgear Smart Wizard CD?
    If so, run it again.
