I would say it has to do with 1) the shares cannot be removed like you posted the other day.. to be added back with proper sharing and security or 2) renaming of the computers.

In regards to number 1... I think the homegroup shares are not setup properly for 1803 sharing.

In regards to number 2... another user had a problem very similar and renaming all his computers, coupled with some reboots fixed his issue.

Also in regards to both, I am not sure if the 1709 computers have the Function Discovery Resource Publication service running as it should. A buddy of mine says it is hit and miss with it running properly as it is in 1803 and why we had to change it to automatic delayed start from manual and start it.

I know it will be a pain, but I would recommend these steps:

    1. Make sure the service is running properly
    2. Rename the computer and reboot
    3. Test from 1803 to see if the shares are now visible. Reboot 1803 just in case and see.
    4. If that does not fix it, removing the shares setup by homegroup and re adding them using Computer Management.
    5. Then reboot and see if the other computer can see the shares now.
    Progress!

I've just had W10 force my KenII to change from 1709 to 1803 in the midst of the troubleshooting. Shrug. The new windows model.

All settings (discovery, services, folder shares) were set up correctly.

I went back and removed "Everyone" as a share, and then added "Everyone" back in. I also checked permissions. I did that for three folders. I rebooted the KenII. (Remember, KenII had access to Kids, but Kids could not see KenII, let alone access KenII.)

Upon reboot of KenII, it now shows on Kids...with all OLDER shares working.

So, update to 1803, with all of its concomitant reboots, did NOT get KenII to be visible. One more reboot did. (Hmm...I also rebooted Kids. Maybe a combination?)

Next, I'll try a laptop or two, and then add in the other desktops.

    Thanks,
    Ken

Edited to add: Failure. See the attached image. I just rebooted my laptop (Ken Superlap, a 1709). It works, still, with Kids. It also sees KenII on the network page. However, if I click on KenII, I get a credential error. Password sharing is off. Ideas?

That was easy. I went back into KenII, rebooted (this is the freshly updated 1803), found a message to "continue installing device software". Odd, this OS message would NOT direct me to any information about which device needed the software. Shrug. Said "Okay".

Rebooted. Checked network center...lo and behold, somewhere in the update/reboot process the protected sharing setting had been changed. I set it back to Turn Off Password Protected Sharing, and now I've got 3 machines (2x 1803 desktops and 1x 1709 laptop) working with one another.

Time to add in some other machines...

Great news. I hope you get the rest of them going also.
