    Sharing over WiFi

At present working with one machine connected to router wired and one over WiFi. With ver 1803 and both Function
Discovery services set to Auto Start Delayed getting to wired works like a charm. The wired machine can see the WiFi shared drive but, get access denied. Is there something I am missing ? Is there something inherent with sharing over WiFi that I am missing ? I shouldn't have to use passwords ?
I have gone through Advanced Sharing, Permissions, Device settings and WiFi Driver settings. Also a ton of posts about sharing.

    Thanks for any directions.

Yes make sure both devices have their connections set to private instead of public. Then make sure private networks has sharing and network discovery enabled.

...to be continued with further details...once I get to my computer...

    Alright, here goes:

    1. Navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Change Connection Status
    2. Make sure your network is set to Private
    3. Also make sure you have NOT made the connection Metered
    4. Next navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network and Sharing Center
    5. This will open up Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Network and Sharing Center
    6. Click Change Advanced Sharing Settings and under Private set Turn on Network Discovery and check the box Turn on automatic setup of network connected devices(optional)
    7. Turn on File and Printer Sharing
    8. On Guest or Public have everything turned OFF
    9. Under All networks turn off Public folder sharing, select Use 128-bit encryption and Turn on password protected sharing if you want to have added security, else turn it off and everybody should have access to all your shares without any passed user credentials.

If you choose to use password protected sharing, then there are additional steps to take. Please let me know and we continue this further.

OK to this point, no passwords. Both machines are equal.

Failed "no permission to access \\ken" and everything is allowed in Sharing & Security.

Out of places to look ! Never had a problem with 7

I have a second ssd in this Dell laptop and sharing the whole "D" drive

Windows doesn't like having no password drive d by default is normally set to hidden share d$ have you set share options to everyone and you also need NTFS permissions set as well or you can't access anything

Are you trying to map the share \\ken\d as a network drive or are you trying to access the \\ken computer via Network Browser and you get access denied?

If you're trying to map the d-drive are you using d (the share name you have chosen) or d$ (the system default share)?

Sharing over WiFi-2018-05-12_14-42-52.pngI am not "mapping" anything. Using straight Advanced Sharing. Yes to \\ken via network browser. I am not using d$.
I even added 'Network' picture and the error changed to it couldn't find \\ken

Been hunting for some option or service not turned on, but no luck yet.

I really don't NEED sharing as using a usb stick works for me. Just want to find out the problem besides Win 10.
