I don't know where you got this information.
I have a few laptops that all use Broadcom WiFi using 10 1709 and now 1803 and they work fine. What is the make and model# of your computer?

There was an issue with some network adapters, including TP-Link using broadcom chipsets, that started with 1709. It was finally resolved by windows update KB4056892 around January this year.
There is no issue with 1803.

So whenever I try to update it puts me to 1709 first then that cuts off my internet and I can't ethernet cable in at my apartment. Would downloading a new ISO image and fresh installing resolve this?

If you roll back or restore to a point before 1709, then download 1803 iso using the media creation tool, you should be okay, if that is indeed the problem.

Okie that is good, I am rolled back and I had disabled all the updates. I will try that after making a backup just in case something goes wrong. Thank you so much for your help I couldn't find information on whether microsoft had done what you say they have.
