Homegroup removed in RS4, what workaround can I use?

    Not if you turn off Password Protected Sharing on all the computers. Then it's just the permissions on the share and the ntfs permissions on the files/folders that controls access. You can set both to Everyone if you want completely free access.

    No, don't believe I did. Used the Advanced Sharing. Since the username and PW are the same on all machines (MS account), it just worked that way.

    My suggestion is the run the same accounts on all Windows machines. They don't need to be MS accounts, but it will greatly simplify sharing between the different versions of Windows. Homegroup was always more difficult to configure and never worked as well as "true" networking.

    Using accounts at home is far from unrealistic. I'd argue it's a necessity in the name of security.
