You should definitely look into the "Pringles can modification" if you have a line-of-sight to your sister-in-law's garage.

$294 !!!!!!!!! someone was being ripped off royally there.

It depends on what you want to pay for --- personally I'm sure you must be able to find in USA cheapish Internet --you don't need all the extra things like land lines / tv packages etc etc.

That woud be the best solution --unless really away from any sort of Town USA must have some type of cheapish decent speed fibre cable broadband service !!!!.

Failing that - it would cost a little bit over a cheap and nasty extender but a nighthawk wifi extender is good -- has 3 antennas and can both do 2.4 and 5 ghz bands. these things work at quite a long way from a signal so this could be an answer - the other advantage it also has 4 LAN ports so you can connect a piece of lan cable between your computer and the extender --gives much better signal than the straight wifi. Also easy to connect another 3 devices via the cable.

A neat trick you can also do with this type of setup is to use a small network switch so you only need 1 cable to the wifi extender and plug your devices into the wifi switch -- a 1Gb/s switch is only about 10 USD and it really does speed up lan connections rather than have 4 individual connections going to the wifi extender.

The nighthawk is not the cheapest piece of kit out there but it's one of the fastest non pro type commercial products I've seen - especially on the 5GHZ band. Using the LAN connection as well even old devices connected to the extender can use the advantage of 5GHZ band even if they can't use it directly on wifi itself.

So I use devices-->network switch--->lan to wifi-extender then wifi extender connects to my router.

My shed is approx. 100m from the router. I have the wifi extender about 80 metres from the router with a 20 metre bit of lan cable connecting my switch to the extender, Then in the shed short bits of lan cable go from my devices into the switch.

It still works also for only wifi but you get a zillion times better performance when doing it the way I suggested -- eventually I want to eliminate the wifi extender completely but it's too cold (and ground a bit hard) currently to start digging up bits of garden to lay cables !!!!.

Still I'd in your case look for a decent ISP - no reason to pay that sort of money you quoted for monthly Internet.

    Cheers

I am staying connected only a few times it will completely disconnect. I can be listening to radio app, have task manager open, on Wi-Fi receive its shows its receiving data at 64 Kbps, then when sis connects phone it drops to 0 (zero) Kbps and stay there till she disconnects her phone.
Yesterday's accumulated update, I went over to her house, receiving data at most was 2.2 Mbps, when she disconnected her phone, it jumped up 50 Mbps.

Jimbo, yea only two ISP providers here Centurylink and Suddenlink. both try robbing you, quote you good deal then bill you 3 to 4 times what they quote.
Centurylink DSL Broadband, they quote you $62, they mail you router, then you have to tell them to turn service on.
Suddenlink is cable, much faster. they quote $75.
Only other provider is Hughesnet, no service in high winds, rain, bird uses dish for perching.
We have two Mc Donalds here, both have AT&T Uverse, AT&T says they don't.

Except for the valley between Vegas and the California State line, I really don't know any area that AT&T doesn't serve. Where I live, in less than a 40 minute drive You can go from 2 GB/s Fiber Optics (Lafayette Utility Services) down to a 26.4 Kb/s AT&T Dial Up connection out on the lake when I have a Camp. Before 2-Way Satellite Systems like Excede (Really High Latency) we couldn't get DirectTV or Dish Satellite because the upload speed was so slow. AT&T put in a Cell Tower so now everybody has gone to unlimited Cell Data Plans for their alarm systems and limited Web Surfing.

Using someone else's Internet at more than say 75-100 feet for other than Emergency or Temporary purposes isn't a good idea unless You're willing to invest is a expensive Outdoor Commercial Type System. Now I do know someone with a Horrible Credit Rating that gets free Wi-Fi from a Public Library around 600 feet from His house. He's using a USB adapter like I posted mounted on a Satellite mini-dish. His speed like yours is far less than 100 Kb/s. He also goes to The Library to download Windows Updates.

My advise would be calling AT&T again and seeing what's available.

They claim its a better deal by bundling.
I was browsing around on the internet looking for providers,, FIOS showed they offer out here internet unlimited data at $14.95,, internet through Centurylink.
Centurylink problem is over billing you, other is they have you using servers 100 miles away from your area when they actually have servers within 30 miles. Right now I am on server in Palestine, TX, 100 miles away,, they have servers closer in Athens and Malakoff, TX.

Maybe they can't force you but the can over charge you. My son tried to lower his Comcast cable bill by dropping some channels. Because of the discount for the bundled package his cable bill would have gone up.
