Cannot see PC on network since Windows 10 reset...

I reset my Windows 10 desktop machine. Now other PCs that previously had connected wirelessly through the router cannot see the desktop machine.

On the other machines I go to File Explorer and under Network > Computer, the only machine that shows up is the one I'm on.

How do I get everything connected again? Thank you

    Hey ixodid,
Your network setting probably got reset, so check the following tutorial (options 1 & 2) - Turn On or Off Network Discovery in Windows 10 Network Sharing Tutorials

    You may need to re-install SMBv1 Server & Client ... Control Panel > Programs & Features > Turn Windows Features On/Off > SMB 1.0 / CIFS File Sharing Support. Just be aware that SMBv1 had been deprecated - Win10 (1709 / SMBv1) - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...r-version-1709

Note: Do not check the SMB 1.0 / CIFS Automatic Removal

Hi Eagle51, thanks for your response.

Option One, step 2 in the Network Sharing tutorial says "Do step 3 (Ethernet) or step 4 (Wi-Fi)..." The machine I reset is connected with an Ethernet cable; all other machines are wifi - so I didn't know how to handle that.

Option Two I had already done.

    I did Option Three.

For the SMBv1 - I went to Control Panel > Programs & Features > Turn Windows Features On/Off, expanded SMB 1.0 / CIFS File Sharing Support and Automatic Removal and Client were checked. I unchecked Automatic Removal.

I then clicked OK and a dialog came up "Searching for required files," then "Applying changes."

I restarted all machines - still no desktop machine seen from the other two.

Do I need to address Option One, Step 2 and/or do something more with the SMB thing?

Can you ping the PC by name or IP, is NetBIOS running as it's that which makes it visible being in effect a new PC it does take some time to show up pinging both PC's can sometimes kick it into life

Thanks, Samuria - pings to the other two machines from all three were successful.

I don't know how to check if netbios is running - I've googled it and not finding how.

    Hey ixodid,
See if you can access each PC by doing the following ... in File Explorer > Address Bar type in \\PC_NAME or \\IP_ADDRESS

PC_NAME is the actual Device Name in Settings > System > About

IP_ADDRESS is the Internal IP Address of each PC (ie. 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x)

You can find the IP address and if NetBios is on using the following command.

    Open Command Prompt as Administrator
    ipconfig /all

    Using IP:

PC 3 (laptop, wifi) can access PC 2 (HP desktop, wifi) - when accessing PC 1 (Dell desktop, wired), I see the screen shot below

PC 2 can access PC 3 - when accessing PC 1, I see the screen shot below

When attempting to access PC 2 and PC 3 from PC 1, for both I get the dreaded Enter Network Credentials dialog

Cannot see PC on network since Windows 10 reset...-192168166_ss.png

Double clicking the printer icon opens the 'see what's printing' dialog ("Print test page" is not successful)

Double clicking the Users folder shows folders Default and Public and most of their subfolders are empty. Whatever that Users folder is does not appear to be PC 1 since all/most of the folders are empty.

Network Credentials - On PC2 and PC3 check ... Control Panel > Network Credentials > Windows Credentials ... I'm guessing that PC1 is the one you reset and it's name got changed, so PC2 & PC3 might have the old credentials (ie. Old PC_NAME)

Using Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Computer Name, I changed the name of PC 1 (the machine I reset) back to its original name before I started this thread.

I suppose changing the name in that manner is not sufficient?
