here are a couple of links that should help you with the SMBv1 / SMBv2 stuff.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...in-windows-and
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...r-version-1709
I spent some time with these articles and others - those articles are getting over my head.

How do you suggest I continue with troubleshooting my issue? I'm thinking maybe I should go back to the beginning to make sure I haven't missed something along the way. Plus, this thread got somewhat convoluted - should I start another thread?

    You may need to re-install SMBv1 Server & Client ... Control Panel > Programs & Features > Turn Windows Features On/Off > SMB 1.0 / CIFS File Sharing Support. Just be aware that SMBv1 had been deprecated - Win10 (1709 / SMBv1) - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...r-version-1709
Note: Do not check the SMB 1.0 / CIFS Automatic Removal
Do I have to use SMBv1? It sounds like it's a serious security risk.

You can if you want, but not necessary.

No, you don't have to use SMBv1 and you can uninstall it or disable it. SMBv1 was patched by MS, so IMO the risk is fairly low on a home network
