I have 2 of Centurylinks modem/router, 1 is a Actiontec PK5001A, the other is ZyXEL PK5001Z, both have great range on Wi-Fi.
I Wi-Fi off my sister, distance between us is about the size of a football stadium. signal strength is 10%..
I have to use a out dated driver for the RTL8188EE adapter. newer driver will cause it to connect on IPv6.

If you can access our antenna lead/s check for continuity, broken wire can cause issues with connection.

Leads in my laptop? I no longer am using the internal wifi card...it is sitting on the table next to me. I am using the USB wifi dongle...and the problem persists.
I have all but given up on this. If I can figure out how to make a bootable USB drive I may put wifi card back in and try running Windows 8. Or just do use my Windows 10 disc. Beginning to wonder if the problem has anything to do with Dells updates. This is the very reason why I used to really enjoy having a desk top, that I built. Never had to Deal with all the bloat ware and updates that the the manufacturer insisted that the machine needed....
I will be editing my pictures and putting them on a USB stick than using my old dinosaur to upload them. This machine has gotten to the point that when I try to go from page to page on the same web site it won't, I get the server...proxy....network problems etc page.

Sorry Doug. In post 32 of this thread I gave you a link to specific instruction on how to create a bootable USB stick and the location of Win 8 software.

    Did these instructions not work.

For this card and I saw mention of IPv6 this link will show you how to disable IP6V in Wndows 10

Have no idea why or how but apparently there was something wrong with the image I downloaded using the library wifi. I went and sat in front of a little food joint that has a decently fast wifi. Downloaded the ISO again, use DiskPart to set up the USB drive and got it to install. I used the same link that the Microsoft store sent me when I purchased the ISO on every attempt to get this thing up and running. Have no clue what was wrong. I will ask the library manager if they have anything set up that may have caused some sort of issue with the download. Sadly I have no idea if this will resolve my initial problem yet as our internet has been at a crawl all night. I just checked my d/l speed, it is at .05 mbps and the upload was .8 mbps, which is actually faster than what we are paying for....go figure.
I noticed that several of the local phone service boxes in our area all have the same odd symbol painted on them, all in the same color. I am hopeful that this means the fiber optic upgrade is not that far away. I sure hope it is....getting very tired of the 20 or so mile trip to the library/food joint to have decent internet speed. I have found the only thing I truly miss from living in Mesa Az compared to our rural setting.....the cable internet. If I remember right we had 65-70mbps in Mesa....
