Well....was fun while it was lasted. I stumbled onto how to reset the machine to the factory image. Soon as it was done I went in and turned off the driver updates, guess it has been about 2 weeks now. Have had zero issues uploading pictures to Facebook and various sites....until this morning. Now when I log onto Facebook with Chrome everything loads....appears normal. When I go to leave a comment I can't. Machine is not locked up, just can't leave any comments. Tried Firefox. Can log on and leave comments....but back to stalling when attempting to upload images. Just checked the wifi adapter driver, it has not changed, it is still the driver from 11/29/2016, version 19.30.0.4. Really wish I could figure out how t make a bootable USB stick with the Windows 8 image on it, I hate Winblows 10.

Morning Doug. While I don't think Windows 8 is the answer here is how to do it.

The post that this link takes you to shows you how to create a bootable USB.

    Win 10 reset

You will need Windows 8.1 software. Can't remember your machine make but some suppliers, for a cost, will send you original recovery disks. You can also get the 8.1 code here.

Let me start with we have an extremely slow ISP. We are at the "end of the line", only available ISP, other than satellite, is Century Links 1.5mbps d/l. We rarely see .7mbps currently, CL is claiming that we will be on fiber optics by summer. Anyway, here is my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 laptop. My wife has an older HP. We both have cells phones and tablets, all of which do not share this problem. My Dell is damn near consonantly disconnecting from our Network. I have tried both Dells and Intels drivers, neither helps. It has gotten to the point that if I want to upload a 100k image to Facebook I need to go plug into the modem first. If I try to upload the same image using my wifes machine it uploads, slowly, but uploads. Getting very frustrated. Any advice would be greatly appreciated....
Part of Centurylink internet is you constantly get changed on their servers. they have you on one that usually 100 miles away from you. their techs do maintenance at 3am every morning. messing things up for us.
We have a guy in Henderson, TX filing lawsuit against them for lowsy service and over priced billings.
From what I have been reading on Microsoft and other forums, it seems cell phones are causing the issue with connection. majority of people posting complaints, mention cell phones. it seems that those cell phones are sucking up the internet. I have the same complaint, I use my sisters internet and her and my niece use their cell phones to play games connecting to the internet. I have connection, but when they use their cell phones, no data can be received or sent till they get off their phones.
In order for getting mine to stay connected, I uninstalled driver and software, rebooted twice, then in my download folder, I left click, right click, open properties, ran it under the compatability troubleshooter, it chose XP SP3, and installed. I have connection but when sis and niece use phones I cant use internet till they get off their phones.

My opinion is the newer adapters work far better. I will caution you though, some newer cards can have issues in older devices. At least that is what I found a few years back when I went with a more modern card.

Older adapters can be full height, about an inch and a quarter long where new cards are half height, three quarters of a inch long. You can buy an adapter (holder) off ebay for three bucks so not a show stopper.

The placement of the wireless card in laptop can be another issue to over come. Some are under the bottom cover while other require some real disassembly.

Seriously the easiest way in a little plug in USB adapter. Not much more in price.

I really think this is a driver issue and it is a matter of finding the right old driver. What adapter did you say you have?

I have a USB WIFI adapter..Wondering if I should simply remove the wifi adapter card..it is not any better as far as staying connected. Now I can't even get on the internet unless I am plugged in.

I have the Intel Dual Band Wireless AC3165. Driver is 19.50.1.6, the oldest one I could find on Intels site.

I can disable the 3165, plug in the USB WIFI dongle and get the same results. From what I have read the wifi card I have has some serious issues with Windows 10...

How old is your router? Not saying it is the problem but they do wear out. My Netgear r6300 would have constant drops on 2.4 band. Replaced router and that issue was fixed.

I knew something was wrong as I test speed while I was in room with router. I used speedtest.net, just the test, not any of the other crap that pops up. Was getting 15Mbps or less.

Interesting that your dongle also suffers outages.

You could also run, from command prompt(admin)

netsh wlan show all | clip

The | clip puts the output on the clipboard. Then open notepad and press crtl-V or paste.

This will show you what your dongle sees. By pasting in notepad you can save and look at report.

No router, just the Modem. I don't remember exactly how old it is but it is no more than 18 months old. That was Century Links first guess....course I had to pay for it....and had 0 improvement.

I downloaded and installed 1 version newer driver for the 3165. When I checked the driver version it did not change....

In the process of downloading the latest version. The wifi card is easily accessible on this pile-o-junk. Very well may try another brand.

Big problem for me....on the 3rd of March we will be driving to Montana to pick up 2 more pups....we will have 4 Redbone Coonhounds and a Blue Nose Pitbull...so my time to deal with this thing is going to be very limited. First event at the dragstrip is about 6 weeks away...so if I don't get this resolved looks like I will be editing my pictures on this laptop, saving the images on a usb stick and using my Linux machine....that thing has had 0 updates done do it in 2 years and has 0 troubles staying connected...
