You can use WifiInfoView to check, if there is any other network using the same frequency and also the signal strength.

I have a Netgear R6120 and a Motorola Surfboard but I'm using a PCI Ralink amazon special because I was in a pinch when I upgraded to windows 10 and my Cisco Valet usb adapter kept causing some kind of USB reboot.
An odd error I never found the solution to. Only when that usb wifi valet was plugged in my computer would crash anything USB related. After a few minutes some devices would kick back in such as wifi but not my keyboard nor mouse.
You wont get 100% speed as windows limits it for QOS unless you turnitoff Windows 10 Home how do I un-limit bandwidth on network without - Microsoft Community
I didn't fully understand the article there but if it relates to the Advanced Options of Delivery Optimization within the settings of Windows Update, I was able to locate download/upload settings that allowed me to set the limit of bandwidth used from 45% down to 5%.
Would this have affected performance in any way?
Definitely hindered by that setting. Transmit power should be at 100% and no power saving, its an employee, don't let it sleep on the job... lol.
Test the Download speed you are actually getting by 1 user wired (1 Gbs) connection to the Modem/Router and testing the speed.
See what you get.
The Router(s) will share out that speed with your 3-12 users, so potentially in a worse case scenario maybe 8 Mbs per user.
The Router software should have some kind of user/priority settings that should share out that bandwidth equally, or indeed not.
That you will have to look up for your particular one.
Wireless
"with the antennas pointing directly at my pc."
Bear in mind maximum transmission/reception is off the sides of a rod aerial, 90 degrees to it. There is a null off the pointy ends.
Out of all the devices in the house my pc is the only wired capable device. 1 pc 4 phones 3 rokus 1 firestick and 2 tablets.
The antennas are at a 40 degree angle on the router and the modem doesn't have any.
What you need is a decent access point or one of the Mesh systems if you want good signal upstairs. Look at the Engenius EAP-1750h. I can get up to 150 feet away and still have 7mbps on a 50mbps connection.
A good dual-band Wireless-ac card should show up to max speed. On my A/P, the max speed is 867mbps, because of reserved overhead. A good Wireless Access Point should be doing all of the work, not the adapter. Also what Windows 10 reserves, has zero effect on any other devices, since it cannot tell the A/P how to create a QOS scheme on it.
Well I got my dual band usb Wi-Fi device and it's amazing. 12 devices connected and I still managed to get 50mbps speed. Double what I was getting.
