Sharing question + pet peeve + util?

In the interest of full disclosure, I have an intense dislike for MS sharing dating back to Win NT (do anything that's a bit involved infrequently and it's generally a RPITA). That said...

    1. Would someone be good enough to explain in English the meaning of the check off option at the bottom of the attached screen shot, "Replace all child..."? If I check it off, does it mean that I've shared all sub directories and files below the current in the identical fashion as the current directory?

    2. A month or two ago I had all 4 of our machines (3 Win10, 1 Win7) finally sharing files in all directions. Several days ago when I checked only 2 were doing so. Is it just me that's blessed with this erratic sharing nonsense or is it a function of MS updates or...?

    3. Has someone taken pity on those that are sharing challenged and come up with a util that will automatically, based upon input criteria, create sharing between machines?

    4. Lastly, is there some really, really good reason other than the manner in which MS coding weenies think that there's no 'simple' way (other than the marginally useful Homegroup) that home users that are not large companies can simply just say (for example) 'share everything below drive C and be done with it?
