Office 2016 install fails on win 10 home

    Hi,
sort of newbie question...but can not solve!!

    • I´ve got my new HP Laptop with WIN10 home factory installed installed .
    • I´ve got my just burned Office2016 pro install DVD, which works like a champ on my old Win 7 laptop.

Now, as soon as I try to install on the new win10 laptop, a message states there´s a missing file....no error code, no any other message!!! NOTHING!!!!

    What could be wrong?

Is there any limitation on new laptops so only Office 365 can be used (just a thought...)

    Thanks!!!

I don't have much to help you except a suggestion :
Burn another DVD. Something might have gone awry in the first one.

    I don't have Office 2016. Mine is a 2007 edition.
    So, I have a silly question :
Assuming the 2016 is still running in the old Win 7 computer. Are you allowed to install the same 2016 to another computer with the same license ?

I would think so to on that last sentence once activated using the license on a PC you probably can not transfer it to another. I have Microsoft Word 2016 only and install fine on Windows 10 and Windows 10 originally came with an app to trial Office 2016 when i upgraded. I uninstalled it though showing it would be compatible.

The license has nothing to do with why their install failed. They just need to download the Office 2016 installer.

My guess is that they either have removed some important items off of their machine. Or are not using a legal copy of Office.

You can get away with one Desktop and one Laptop with office still.

You should still have your Office 2016 ISO or IMG file that you downloaded when you bought it. Copy that file to your Windows 10 PC, double click to mount it as virtual DVD, and run the setup from there (you can mount ISO and IMG files in Windows 10, no need to burn them). Does it work now?

If you don't have the ISO or IMG file anymore, re-download it.
    • If you subscribed to Office 365 Home or Personal, sign in to stores.office.com/myaccount/home.aspx, select Install, select Language and install options, select Additional install options, select Download offline installer. This downloads the installer as IMG file which can be mounted in Windows 10, no need to burn it
    • If you bought Office Home & Business or Office Professional from Microsoft Store, the confirmation email should have the download address
    • If you bought Office license key from Microsoft Store, Amazon or any other online or offline retailer, the confirmation email or the package itself should have the download link

Activation doesn't happen until the install is done, and you launch one of the programs. That's when your asked to enter a key and activate. That's how my Office 2016 install goes.

I run Office 2016 on all my PC's, Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise and Education. I've installed the 32 and 64 bit versions with no issues. Where did you get your office 2016 install media from?

    Not in my 2007 version.
Product key is asked right away before installation can begin.

Besides, I used the word " install" in the broadest sense.
What I meant to ask the OP himself was : is he allowed to use the same copy of 2016 and same product key in another computer while assumingly the 2016 copy is till running in the Win 7 computer.
I am sure most people would understand what I was asking in my original reply post #2.

Yeah, my post was just meant to point out office 2016 does it different. No key is asked for during the install. So it's not that it's been used on another PC that's causing the install failure. He never got as far as actually entering a key.

It was too early in the morning and I hadn't even finished my first cup of Java yet when I posted.

And if OP will have problems with activation of Office 2016 after he manage his (or her) install problems, this is a procedure to follow with transferring license to a new computer. :) Transfer office 2016 license to new computer.
