What's the story with this "new" Sticky Notes button in OneNote 2019

Just fired up One Note today and saw a new "clickable" "Sticky Notes "area" in the upper right corner of the app toolbar:

Found a tiny bit of info online - but why is this part of OneNote and most importantly - can it be shut off?

Do you have OneNote for Office 2019 or do you have OneNote for Microsoft 365? They are not the same thing.

I have Office Professional Plus 2019. I looked at OneNote and didn't see Sticky Notes. I also see that I have OneNote for Windows 10. I don't see StickNotes on that either.

An online search found a reference to Sticky Notes app for Windows which is being added to OneNote for Microsoft 365.

Good question. I am running this - OneNote for Office Pro Plus 2019:

What's the story with this "new" Sticky Notes button in OneNote 2019-2024-03-25_15-20-04.png

Which is "not" supposed to be "365-ified" - yet it appears I am getting some sort of updates via that vector.

And this new thing is rolling out in waves - so not everyone will see it yet.

But I do not understand why it gets a dedicated button in OneNote? I mean what need is there for "sticky" notes when you are already inside the app that has been world standard from "note" taking and all of it's management for years?

This thing makes no sense launching from here.

I have two copies of Office Pro Plus 2019 and one of Office Pro Plus 2021. I don't see the StickyNote update in any of them. It seems the StickyNote update is currently being rolled out for Microsoft Office Insiders. Have you signed up for that program?

BTW, all Office products are now part of Microsoft 365. Office 2021 is the latest perpetual Office product. It is unknown whether there will be any new standalone office products.

Have never signed up for any Office Insider stuff to my knowledge. All I know it was not there on Friday and then on Monday - there it was :)
