    Outlook/Options/Advanced/Open Hyperlinks from Outlook in:???

A few weeks ago we upgraded to Office Version 2308 for testing in our IT dept. We noticed right away that all of the links within emails were opening in Edge. We found the setting in Outlook and the only solution that we can find is for a user to change the setting manually.

We have over 200 users that mostly use Chrome as their default browser and I want to get this changed to Default Browser. This is an option in the drop down for this setting but from everything I've read their is no registry GP to create to make the default "Default Browser".

    1) We tried the cloud policy in the Office 365 portal and it had no effect and other users are saying the same thing.
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...nks-in-browser

    2) With the version of Office were using, we can't use Office's group policy. Even if we did, I've read that users set the policy but it never works.

I've searched so many different ways and have come to a dead end on finding a registry fix.

Note: From the forums I've read, this has been going on since last June and it doesn't look like Microsoft has any intentions of fixing this or providing a mass solution. Many users are pretty upset about this.

If you have any info at all then please share because you would be providing a solution that MANY users would be very grateful for......

I can't see Open Hyperlinks from Outlook in within Outlook/Options/Advanced.
Have I misunderstood where to look?

I'm on Version 2402 and I have the same problem as you two.

    All the best,

I found this in my notes but cannot test it myself yet [because my only Outlook 2021 computer is busy recording a TV programme for the whole afternoon].

If the Registry edits do work then they can be automated.

    Good Morning Denis,
It's my understand that Microsoft is removing this option from some regions. Of course this is just hearsay.

I tried changing the setting in Outlook to Default browser and exported the registry change but apparently that setting creates a unique registry entry for each pc - BrowserChoiceTime is unique. So importing the registry entry from my pc will not work on other PCs.

    Understood.
    I'm in the UK.
My Outlook 2021 Options, Advanced does not have that File & browser preferences section.

I'm very surprised that we seem to be the only people talking about this.
I found no hits when searching the forum for outlook hyperlink.

I'm going to have to go over my own notes again.
Perhaps I misunderstood something all that time ago.

I found the registry keys that control the behavior in Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Links and they are

    Outlook/Options/Advanced/Open Hyperlinks from Outlook in:???-registry.jpg

The DecisionPending registry key is waiting for you to make a mouse selection of either Microsoft Edge and or Default Browser. Once that selection has been made it passes the value to the DecisionComplete registry key. With zero being Microsoft Edge and one being the Default Browser. I've tried to trick the registry keys into mimicking the mouse behavior and nothing is working.

I love how Microsoft puts stumbling blocks in our way to make our jobs harder and not provide the tools to make our own decisions on what is best for our companies and our user base. With them most of the time not giving us a heads up or documenting anything.

I looked into this a while back and i think it revolves around files with the .MHT extension and only EDGE can speaky that lingo, Outlook opens the hyperlink in that format.
