Unable to install new version of Office I bought
I bought Office 2019 Pro from StackSocial via Popular Science. I finally figured out that redeeming the purchase resulted in the fact that I paid for it being downloaded to my Microsoft account. My existing version was 2007 Enterprise, acquired from the university where I was previously employed, and sold for personal use to students and faculty members.
There were no instructions anywhere on how to install it, so I just clicked on the link in my Microsoft account page. It said it it was downloading and ran for a long time. When I checked the downloaded file it is named officesetup.exe and is not large enough to contain a version of Office. When I ran this file I was told I had an existing version of Office installed. I deleted 2007 enterprise through settings, ran officesetup again with the same result. I finally stumbled on a Microsoft program that says it completely removed the 2007 Enterprise edition. However, first, the uninstall program may not have been designed to uninstall such an old version (some notes on the screen suggested this). Also, the purchase included Microsoft 365 (which I did not want), installed that first and charged me a year for it, and even stumbling over the same removal program and running it again did not work to remove it. The program said it was uninstalling MS 365 but it ran for hours and did not finish.
I cancelled the renewal of MS 365, but apparently I am stuck with it for a year. Our rural internet is out often enough that I want a resident version of office. The Microsoft account page now says I have redeemed the purchase of the 2019 Pro, and even if I could find it again (I do have the product ID) it would decline to install.
How do I do this right? Even though I would like to install the version I bought I am willing to find another discount version. I think Stack Social is an o.k. place to buy from.
