Office '13 to Office '21 update...

Hello... I am in the process of updating the Office 2013 to Office 2021 (desktop version). Keeping the current email accounts, emails, configuration in short, is paramount.

Most of the information found talks about uninstall Office 2013, install Office 2021 that my and may not find the O'13 configuration files.

Is the update of Office 2013 to to Office 2021 a straight forward, in place upgrade? If not, what is the best way to migrate/import the current Outlook configuration to the new version?

    Thx...

    PS: Windows 10, 22H2 (OS Build 19045-3448)

I don't believe there's an "in place" upgrade unfortunately. What I did was back up the Outlook data files first. You can find them if you go to Control Panel/Mail/Data Files. Uninstall the old version of Office and install the new version. Then copy those data files back to the same location. Hope that helps.

It is unfortunate that Office '21 does not support in place update.

The system currently has eight .pst files in the referenced location. Copying them to the secondary drive and bring them in after the installation completed shouldn't be too hard. Hopefully, it'll work. I doubt that the .pst files have the password for the email accounts, but that's a small issue.

Additionally, there are eight archive .pst files on the secondary drive. Those would be easy to link to Outlook '21.

I seem to recall a video, where Outlook '13 had been uninstalled and instead of rebooting the PC, Office '21 was installed and then the PC rebooted. Outlook opened just fine once the system started with all of the emails from Outlook '13. Got to find that video on YT...

By the way, I don't think that uninstalling Office removed my Outlook pst files. The backup is a precaution in case something goes wrong. You may not need to copy them back 👍

I have five PST files. The big pain in doing a 2013 to Office 365 was setting up Outlook to run an IMAP account. Then importing the five PST files. Then changing the calendar, etc folders to one of the PST files. (TL;DR unless someone is interested.)
