    Lost Outlook files after recover

I was having some issues with my laptop so I did a recover. I lost my 2016 MS Office. I found the purchase history and re-loaded it. I have lost all the contact information I had added to Outlook. Did those files get permanently deleted or is there a way to recover them?

Did you find your original PST file, if you did you still have contacts, you need to select the original profile and then change the view to see the folder.

    lost pst files

    I found these files.........

    My Outlook Data File(1)
    My Outlook Data File(2)
    Outlook
    Outlook1
    Outlook2

When I looked at the properties they were Type (.pst)

So now that I have found them I need to figure out how to do the following.....

select the original profile and then change the view to see the folder.

Do I open Outlook and then "select" the original profile? How do I find the original profile in order to select it?

Then, how do I change the view to see the folder.

Sorry, I'm not vary knowledgeable in this.

You have to work out which is your default pst file then use the control panel "Mail" app to load it or them, then use the Profiles section of the control panel app to select your chosen profile.

You can open those pst files to see what's in them without changing any views or anything else.
And you can close them again afterwards.

I got this information from the link above......

To open the Outlook Data File (.pst)

Select File > Open & Export > Open Outlook Data File.

When I open my Outlook, I don't see "File" anywhere in order to Select it.
Am I looking in the correct place?

Thank you for the reply. As I may have said before, I'm not very good at this.

I opened Outlook and I clicked on the "envelope" along the side.... is that an applet and is that the control panel? So, I got an email form to open. I don't think that was what I wanted.

Sorry that I'm having such a hard time with this. Can you help me further?

I cant make that any simpler, look in control panel for an app called MAIL. Just click run and start typing control panel, at some time before you've typed the whole line Control Panel will pop up in the list.

    Added shortly afterwards -
I re-read the thread after posting:
    -
I think your description only matches the Windows 10 built-in mail app which is now called Outlook.
    - I do not think you are looking at your MSOffice Outlook 2016 at all.

Please post a screenshot of your MSOffice Outlook 2016.
I'm expecting to see something similar to this screenshot of a very old MSOffice Outlook 2016 build.

The built-in Windows 10 email app is now also called Outlook and I'm wondering if you are perhaps looking at that app instead of MSOffice Outlook 2016.
I know nothing about it but found one screenshot of it.

Taken from either Microsoft’s web-flavored update for Outlook - AT or Microsoft previews a new, totally redesigned Outlook for Windows app - AT
