    Outlook Stuck on Send/Receive

I recently set up Outlook on a new laptop for a friend.
They had a huge old mailbox with circa 50 folders in it.
I have created a Gmail account for him and set up Outlook in this.
Next I created PST from his old mailbox and imported them into Outlook.
I was NOT able to use the Add Data file Option as I would keep getting a Windows error.

the old mailbox was set up as Pop3 whereas with Gmail its IMAP.

I successfully managed to import the many multiple pst files that were created to import his old mailbox.

He can receive mail no problem but is saying that Outlook is stuck on Send and Receive now.

Ive read somewhere that an Office repair might be needed.
As hes using office 365 would I go into Control Panel - Find Office - Choose Uninstall and then it will ask me if I want to repair Office?

    TIA Bart

Do you recall what was the error about?

I understand that IMAP is not working, right?
Please confirm that gmail has IMAP enabled in gmail settings.

IMAP works and IMAP is enabled within Gmail.

the error code I got previously when trying to add the data file is

    rror code 0x80070002

If the old mailbox was huge then it makes sense that uploading the data to gmail might take time, it also depends on upload speed.

Have you tried waiting for at least 30 minutes to finish sending and receiving?

so ironically the main old mailbox was small only 250MB provided by the broadband supplier
the user had a 3GB PST file that he was saving his mail to.
He has left it for over an hour and still the same.
Could there be an issue with outlook/office? If so how do I run a repair on Office 365

It's hard to say for sure but if you wan to run repair you can do so by opening control panel and in "programs and features" click on MS office and then click "change".
In a new window that appears click either "repair" or "online repair"

I however doubt that this would solve the problem because there might be mail misconfiguration an issue rather that office itself.

Did you realize during setup that gmail requires 2FA when using outlook?

Whenever an email client is not sending or receiving you should visit the email account through a web browser i.e. chrome, edge, firefox etc. If you cannot log into the account that is telling you the server with the account is down (for whatever reason). Or maybe you can access the account but the UI doesn't look right or composing a message and trying to send it doesn't work. Same reason there as well.

I use two email clients and whenever that happens I visit my effect account through chrome and see if I can log-in, send/receive.

    Good tip for future inevitabilities.
