Office Home & Student 2021 account question

    You will never be in full control of software that someone else has written. What is this great fear of using a email account as your Microsoft .com account? I have yet to have my email get spammed by microsoft for the one that I use with Microsoft.

    I just want a local account. It gives me at least the illusion of control.

    A local account has zero to do with applications, it only has to do with logging into Windows.

    No.
    And you must have an MSOffice application running whilst you are connected to the internet with MSOffice logged into that MSAccount at least once a month in order to maintain activation.
    You can remain logged into Windows with your local user account while this is all happening.

    I had to log into my Microsoft account to download Office 2021. Once Office 2021 was installed I never had to do that again.

    BTW, your Microsoft account User ID can be any email address as long it is valid and current. For example, it might be: something.outlook.com, something.live.com, something.gmail.com, something.yahoo.com, etc.

    As you can see below I have the option of signing into my Microsoft account but I never do.

    I'm on MSOffice 2021 and I thought MS told me I had to keep logged in to the MSAccount to remain activated.
    My 10th May 2022 post on the subject seems to say something slightly different.
    I have misunderstood something at some stage and cannot now find the MS article I thought I was complying with.

    Added a bit later. If I try to sign out of my MSAccount in MSOffice 2021, I get this dialog.

    I think it is telling me that I cannot edit files until I sign in again.
    [All its stuff about saving to OneDrive etc is irrelevant. All my files are on my computers.]

    I've asked for assistance in ElevenForum [because that's where I think MSOffice 2021 has been discussed most extensively].

    I was wrong.

    My MSAccount was only required for the initial download, installation & activation.
    Perhaps I merely imagined that I read an MS article that said otherwise.

    I'm with you on that. Ideally, I'd like to treat it like past Office versions where MS wasn't so nosy.

    And I never use the cloud, preferring to use local backups instead. I have control over those.

    When I bought Office 2021 I just received the Product Key. I then logged into my Microsoft Account to validate the key. Once it's validated it's added to my Microsoft account. I then click on the Install button to download the setup program for Office 2021.

    When you bought Office 2021 what process did you use?
