When I bought Office 2021 I just received the Product Key. I then logged into my Microsoft Account to validate the key. Once it's validated it's added to my Microsoft account. I then click on the Install button to download the setup program for Office 2021.

When you bought Office 2021 what process did you use?
It's asking me for an email address. I don't have a screen shot of it at the moment.

It was a download that was sent to me by email, an email address that I don't wish to attach to Office.

The email address used to send you your Product Key does not constrain your choice of which MSAccount to use for your installation & activation.
Just go to Setup Office or Microsoft 365 and use whatever MSAccount you want.

You can remain logged into Windows with your local user account while this is all happening.

    Best of luck,

Why don't you post a screen shot of what you are talking about? I did for my post.

I had to log in to my Microsoft Account to get Office 2021. Otherwise, I had no way to download Office 2021.

I'm not at home right now so I can't do that.

And that's what I was talking about.

This is Office Home & Student 2021, not Office 365. And the Cloud is disabled.

I'm with you on that. Ideally, I'd like to treat it like past Office versions where MS wasn't so nosy.

And I never use the cloud, preferring to use local backups instead. I have control over those.

No it did not. I bought it separately.
My versions are on the card you get at Best Buy, and they all require a Microsoft account to even run. This annoys me, and I would like to be able to load a local account only. So I am using my old 2010 office on my main desktop. When I build my new system it will get Windows 10 Pro, Office 2010 and LibreOffice so I can have a local account only.

It requires an MSAccount to download, install & activate.

Why do you think it requires an MSAccount to run?
    - That was also my mistaken believe until I learnt better a few days ago and I have since logged my MSOffice 2021 out of its MSAccount without any problems appearing.
    - I was logged in to my Windows local user account all the time anyway. It was just my MSOffice 2021 that was logged into my MSAccount.

    Is this what you bought?

I think you're confused. The Microsoft Account used with Office 2021 has nothing to do with your computer login.

I have Office 2019 on two computers with Windows 10 Pro and Office 2021 on a computer with Windows 11 Home. All of these computers have local accounts. I can log into my Microsoft account while running Office 2019 or 2021 but that is optional. The Microsoft account is for syncing data. If you don't need to do that there is no need to log in.

Thats it! It says I cannot even activate and use it until I set up a Microsoft Account. I had to call tech support to get it to work. Tech support said that they no longer allow a local account for Office, everyone has to be associated with a Microsoft Account. The guy was really decent, so I have no reason to not believe him. After I signed in on my Microsoft Account suddenly Word, etc worked just fine.

You can now log MSOffice out of your MSAccount. As I said before, the MSAccount was only required for download, installation & activation.
    File menu,
    Account,
top left corner - sign out,
a confirmation dialog will appear [and will contain lies that you can ignore], just click on Sign out and you're done.

    MSOffice will continue to work.
