How to set Windows Mail app as default mail handler in Office?

Trying to email a spreadsheet from within Office 2019 and it tells me it can't find Outlook PST. I don't use Outlook for mail; I use the standard Windows 10 Mail app. Thanks.

    Doesn't Office 2019 Help help?

I doubt you can use the 'mail to' functionality contained within Office if you are not using Outlook - the Office components are too intertwined. Simply use your email program independently, and locate the file in whatever way it offers.

Update: my experience is limited to Office 2010, and I don't know if later versions offer any choice of mail handler.

How are you trying to mail it? File, Share, EMail, Send as attachment?
I have just tried that for the first time in Excel 2021 and nothing happens - perhaps I have misunderstood what it is supposed to do or perhaps something I have done has disabled it.
Can't you send it by right-clicking on the spreadsheet in File explorer, SendTo, Mail recipient?

Yes, that works as expected. The issue is sending from within Excel 2019: File > Share > Email > Send as attachment: "Outlook Data File: The file ...PST cannot not be found."

    You may be right.

Those settings apparently do not affect what Office does.

    Hi!
Open any Office application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Go to File > Options > General
In the "Send email using" section, select "Windows Mail" from the drop-down list.
Close the options and restart the Office application.

This is my Excel 2021, File, Options, General dialog.

It does not have a Send mail using ... section. Neither does my Word 2021.
    Which version does?
Or perhaps it depends on a specific Office add-on?

The Windows 10 Mail App does not have the MAPI protocol. The full Outlook Mail application does.

So, no good trying to set the Mail App as default mail handler in Office.

However for what is required you simple attach the spreadsheet file or any file using the Mail App, so no big deal.
