No office icons in file explorer Office 2016 on Windows 10 21H2

I have just finished upgrading my PC to Windows 10 21H2 from 1809.

Installed office 2016 and icons do not show for just office files. All other programs are fine. I can click on the file and it will open fine, there are just no icons in explorer. Also, the start menu has excel and word pinned and the icons 't show there either.

I went though everything in this post but it didn't help; Office files don't show any Office icon in Windows Explorer

    sfc /scannow
    uninstall/reinstall office (failed)
    Repair install (failed)
Deleted all iconcache files in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

Does office write a log file anywhere that I can interogate?

Windows was installed from scratch on a new SSD

You may try the solution described here with a similar problem.

Must have been a long day :)
That is exactly the post I linked to

Anyway, I think the original install must have "glitched" as both a repair and an uninstall failed. So I restored to a fresh Windows image and installed office again. It worked fine.
