I don't understand your comment about Microsoft Office 2022. There is no such version. The latest standalone version of Office is Microsoft Office 2021. In fact Microsoft Office 2021 will be last version of Microsoft Office. Starting in 2023 all future versions of Microsoft Office will be branded as Microsoft 365.

You need to choose which version of Office you want to use and stick with it. Mixing versions of Office will only lead to problems.

There are a few scattered .exe files in the Office 12 directory, but my search results snip shows all of the winword.exe files on c:\. The leftover files appear to be MS Publisher and such. There are a large number of folders in the Office 12 directory, so I hope one of them will let me fix the 2007.
    Please
1 go to the folder you were at in this diagram showing OIS.exe -

2 then look in the column headers, click on the Type column's down-arrow, select Application, take a screenshot, post it. Your diagram should look more or less the same as mine in post #4 and, if it doesn't, that can affect your decisions.

"I see that MS says uninstalling will not remove the files from my computer" - This remark only relates to your own Word/Excel/etc files, ones you created yourself using MSOffice.

Tip: Uninstalling Microsoft 365 only removes the Microsoft 365 applications from your computer, it doesn't remove any files, documents, or workbooks you created using the apps.

    Denis, it worked!

Denis, I removed 365. Then I clicked my Word shortcut and got a brief window that said Updating Office Enterprise 2007. When that went away I had all of my *.exe files back in Office 12 and even my Recent Documents list for Word!

Thankyouthankyouthankyou. Your list of steps worked perfectly. I will mark this one Solved!

    Judy,

    I'm glad it's fixed.
I hope you've made a new system image to safeguard your current working state.

    All the best,
