Office 2013 max number of devices

We have a copy of Office 2013 that allows two installs. One is installed on my PC and the other was on an old Toshiba Laptop.
Both have been activated and working fine. We are retiring the Toshiba Laptop so we uninstalled Office 2013. When we try to activate it on a new laptop it says "max number of devices". I know it was only on these two computers. Any idea what is going on? Is this a Call Microsoft issue? Every other software company has a mechanism to show you what keys you have and where they are installed. Does Microsoft have anything like this? I had the same issue trying to move a Windows 10 Pro Retail to another computer.

I do not know of an Office 2013 Edition that allows installation on two computers at the same time.
A copy of your licence terms would normally be somewhere on your installation disk.
MS licences download site - Sorry, Office 2013 licences are no longer available through that link.
I believe that you can read your licence terms in an Office application like Excel at
File, Account, About Excel, View the Microsoft Software License Terms.

When you try to activate, choose the telephone option.

Download and install or reinstall Office 2019, 2016, 2013 - MSSupport

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

Wow. Yes it clearly says one install per license. I swear that back in 2013 the deal was that it was ok to install one on your desktop and one on your laptop as long as you did not run them at the same time. We did that for years. Thanks again.

i had a similar problem with 2007 editiion which back then was good for 3 machines if i recall correctly.

since it was so aged and reinstalled on newer machines i had the same issue so i contacted by phone to activate then issued with a code, i was also informed that the code was good forever or something like that, i have since installed it many times on many machines and activated over the internet and have always been activated no issues on numbers blah blah blah, i currently have it on 4 machines all activated.

i actually rang microsoft here in Australia and all went smooth.

    hope this helps

You are thinking of Office 2007 Standard Edition & Pro Edition. This allows installation on one device plus a mobile device as long as they are both for use by the same individual. The difference between types of computer was not further defined; many people took it to mean a desktop & a laptop.
Office 2007 Home & Student allows for three concurrent installations in a household for use by residents.

And what you've just read is the relaxed version of that licence.
When Office 2013 was originally published, even Retail licences were tied to the first machine they were installed on & could not be transferred unless that machine failed under warranty in which case MS would graciously consider granting an exemption. To give them some credit, MS deleted the non-transferability clause swiftly [6th March 2013].

    Thanks for the rep,

    Rob,

I never bought H&S, only Pro. I use Outlook & Access.

I don't retire old computers until they disintegrate so I've bought Office 2007 Pro twice to cover the 4 computers it's installed on.
    - The first purchase was an upgrade in 2007 and cost me £234.
    - The second purchase was a full version in 2016/2017 and only cost me £50.
    - I had a nose around Amazon last year and its price was back up to well over £150. It has since eased back to about £100. There must be widespread dissatisfaction with later versions to cause that. I can understand the sentiment because I used Office 2016 for a year and I thought it was awful in comparison with Office 2007.

The EULA on my Office 2010 Pro and 2013 Pro do have words to the effect of they can be installed on a workstation and a portable device in control of/used by the same person. Due to costs most of the things I need to do in an office-type program are being accomplished by the free LibreOffice. One thing Microsoft Office has that others don't is Publisher but I use the older Serif PagePlus [now called Affinity] for that.

    That's interesting.
    - My copy of the Office 2013 EULA does not contain any reference to this that I can find apart from the clause in section I.2 allowing installation of the Home & Student Edition in Japan on a second device.
    - My copy is dated [in its PDF properties] as 9th Feb 2013. It contains the significant amendment to the EULA that was promulgated on 6th March 2013 to permit transfer to a replacement licensed device. Perhaps it all changed again later on.

I have never owned Office 2013 and the topic was, for me, merely one to note in case I ever considered upgrading.
I didn't download a copy of an Office 2010 EULAs at all so remain in complete ignorance of its contents.

    All the best,
    Denis

Looks like I inadvertently misspoke, the original install over Office 2010 had the words but in checking today the EULA appears changed in more than one area, probably due to a number of updates to it. An excerpt: How can I use the software.docx
