Office 2007 Install Updates and Activation?

I need to reinstall my OS, which is actually and Upgrade from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro.

First off I'm worried that Office Activation will not go smoothly. I have the Product Key, just don't know how many installs are left on it.

And I cannot believe I didn't download and backup all the Office 2007 Updates for future use! This is by far the best program I've ever used and I still love it over all else, always have and always will.

My only alternative is the old Office programs 2002 or 2003 or LibreOffice, yuck! I don't have the money to pay for an Office Suite right now and don't like the new ones anyhow. Can someone tell me how this may go in 2022. I don't want to bugger up my new install once I get going on it. So Licensing and Updates are my two biggest worries I guess. I suppose the updates are not a deal breaker but I don't even know if it will Activate?

Also, where to get legit Product Keys IF NEEDED? I suppose that is like buying gold right now and many scammers abound? A friend bought one and it was no good.

I think I found what I needed but will have to look at some of the threads here to copy the .cab files to the right place.

There is no reason to expect Windows 10 activation problems.
Clean Install - TenForumsTutorials and, in preparation for one, consider Backup and Restore Device Drivers - TenForumsTutorials
You will not need a Windows 10 Product Key - the tutorial explains this.

I also still use Office 2007. I installed it on a new computer last year and there was no problem downloading updates.
You will need your Office 2007 Product Key to activate it. If this is the one you are referring to, "where to get legit Product Keys?", then there are utilities that can read the Product Key from your existing Office 2007 installation.

I do not know why you are referring to .cab files.

    All the best,

That's good to know, I guess I will get the old updates just not new ones right? I say this because I have not seen any updates in a long time now.

I have the Product Key, but as I said just don't know how many installs are left on it. Sorry should have been more clear.

I saw in another thread that someone was copying the .cab files to the Office Folder to get security updates etc. I suspect from what you are saying I won't need that?

Office 2007 updates stopped being issued in 2017. So you'll only get ones issued before support ended.

Office 2007 lets you re-install or transfer to a different computer every 90 days. You'll find the terms buried somewhere within the installation disk or online at MS licences download site
    Here's my copy MsoEula.txt

No fiddling about with individual .cab files is needed to make Windows update get all your Office 2007 updates for you.
Just make sure that in Settings, Updates, Advanced options that you have set the checkbox for Receive updates for other MS products.

If I recall correctly, it took about three goes with WU to get all my Office 2007 updates. I imagine the first lot made it ready for the second batch & so on.
    - I did also download a copy of each one later on to keep for the day when MS take Office 2007 updates off their servers but there's no sign of that happening any time soon [I noticed an Office 2003 user referring to getting the old updates only last year].
    - Many of my downloaded Office 2007 updates are .msp files that I can just double-click on to get them to install. Some are .cab files and a very small number of those .cab files are awkward to install. I can only imagine that the thread you referred to was about one of those awkward ones. If you just let WU get on with the job then there's no awkwardness at all - you just run Windows update then make a pot of tea & put your feet up.

    All the best,
    Denis

That's amazing news, I'm so happy to be able to do this now with this new information. I simply can't imagine using windows without my amazing Office 2007!

I've tried the online 365 suite or whatever it is, and it is horrible, slow and such a departure from what is so simple. I know it can be installed locally too, or to access files locally etc. but the layout is not to my liking. I would prefer to use LibreOffice over that program, considering I don't use Excel, but just Word etc. Libre is not that bad.

I used Preview versions of Office 2016 for over a year. I did not like its changes, particularly those in Outlook & Access.
I've now got a copy of Office 2021 just for experiments.
Office 2007 will remain my main Office application suite for as long as it keeps working. Several other TenForums members are doing the same.

    All the best,
    Denis

That may have been me. In December 2021 I installed Office 2003 and Windows Update promptly downloaded updates up to the last ones issued. If 2003 can still get its updates then 2007 should too. This was on a Win7 PC, not that that should make any difference.

Wow, I don't think I've seen that before.
