    O365 click-to-run wont update

Last night I did a check for O365 updates in Outlook. Kicked off the process to download updates which usually is finished in a couple of minutes. After 1hr plus it was still not finished and there was no activity for click-to-run in task manager.

I tried stopping click-to-run but it just restarted and continued trying to download. Tried a reboot but still no action.

Tried to initiate a repair but it said I had to wait for an operation currently in progress.

If I go into Outlook under Office Account is says Updates for this product are available for download. If I select Update now nothing happens.

Seems Click-to-run is stuck and unable to continue.

Anyone know please how I can get Click-to-run out of this stuck state so I can correctly apply the latest O365 updates?

All other updates went through ok this morning, it is just click-to-run that is having the problem?

    - - - Updated - - -

I went into the folder where click-to-run is location and ran:
    OfficeC2RClient.exe /update user

and the window popped up "Downloading Office updates" there was some initial network activity but now has been running for a while and there is no network activity

So I am back where I was last night and still unable to apply latest updates.

BTW SFC and DISM are clean

SAME PROBLEM. Have 7 laptops in the house. Firstly I ran windows update which downloaded & installed the monthly patches etc. On a reboot, I checked for updates & saw there were none & I was up to date. I then opened an Office 365 app & checked for updates & the "Downloading Office Updates" window appeared. So I closed the Office app to let it do it's thing. I then did the same on my other machines after windows updates had completed. On the first five machine I ran the Office Check for Updates on, I am stuck with the "Downloading Office Updates" & have been for 3.5hrs. On the last 2 machines I checked (which was about 30mins after the first one), Office updates were downloaded and completed within minutes. Like you would expect. Usually if something is wrong then you get a message saying that the download failed, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

What I've tried: Ending the MS Click to run process in task manager, running c-cleaner & re-starting the machine. On boot up the Downloading Office Updates window appeared immediately after reboot without my touching any Office apps or doing anything. (This is with Fast boot disabled btw). I then tried to run a repair of Office via the control panel - the longer, online version - which initiated but got stuck on downloading 0 percent. I then rebooted because the repair was going nowhere after an hour, and on-reboot I uninstalled office (which was only successful after having to repeatedly end MS click to run processes in task manager). On reboot I downloaded a fresh installation of Office365, which installed successfully, but alas it's the previous version 16.0.15128.20178 that got installed, not the newer 16.0.15128.20224 that the two successfully updated machines show. I then checked for updates through the account page on Word, and went right back to the stuck Downloading Office Updates window that is clearly not downloading anything. So I've uninstalled Office again on that machine, but the other four are still stuck on Downloading Office Updates.

    Would also welcome suggestions.

UPDATE: Would suggest anyone else facing this problem does NOT do what I did above. After well over five hours, the other four stuck machines have literally just applied updates ,& flashed the window that "Updates were installed". Happened within minutes of each other. I assume MS fixed the issue.

Now I just have to re-install Office on the machine I tried to fix above. Might leave "Checking for Updates" well alone on it if it downloads the old version again. Office365 should update itself automatically, but if it hasn't within the next few days I'll give the process another go and hope for better luck.

Yes that would definitely be my advice pebuilder! Have wasted literally hours on this this morning, and it seems uninstalling Office 365 has also caused OneDrive to become unsynced - it is currently downloading 90GB of files in the background!! Looks like some settings in Office365 were not retained on re-installing & have to be re-done on said machine (Preferred Language, Quick-access toolbars etc). Also, it again downloaded the previous version of Click-to-run Office365. Hopefully it'll update itself over the coming days.

After leaving it for two hours it eventually wanted me to close Outlook so could update.

The update went through and successfully completed.

Yeah it was around 5-5.5hrs for me. I found another thread somewhere on my googling where it took 12hrs for someone.

I'm in NZ. Not sure if region has anything to do with it, but there seem to be a few Australian flags in this thread, and I have my region set to Australia with the country & timezone set to NZ (reason is because of some features I wanted that are only available in Cortana supported countries, which NZ is not).

OZ here, just the usual BS from M$.

Although I have a gig connection it just gets me how inconsistent they are with ALL OS Updates.
Like Windows 10/11 Cumulative Updates are always second Wednesday of each month, fine,., but OFFICE can be anytime and WHY do they release OFFICE and W10/11 updates on the same day (like this one), they used to stagger it.

Not saying this is the reason...

Thursday morning (AU Time) and still no change.

I also have a PC that runs OFFICE Insider (even though I opted out) I still get a Later version than public release and that Downloaded and installed as normal.

So AFAIAC This Issue is ONLY with this Build Update from 2204, Build 15128.20178 click to Run.

Our friend above is from Mexico so this is not an issue only in OCEANIA (AU/NZ)
