The wide ribbon is just crazy in Office 2019/2021 - any cool solution?

MS Office 2019 and 2021 -

The vertical thickness is just way insane. I actually auto-hide the ribbon because of it.

Is there a solid tweak for this application suite that won't interfere with any other system/application settings?
It is taking a large percentage of my screen real estate, so I cannot leave it displaying constantly.

The relevant part of James' link is section II.1 Word Ribbon too big right at the end.
It guides you in checking whether or not you have the Ribbon set for use with Touch & altering that if desired.

What I would like to do is simply reduce the ribbon size from top to bottom (vertical), say around 50% or so.

Did MS not think of this?
